Not sure if anyone has noticed, but on Yahoo!Music (www.yahoomusic.com), Weezer (www.weezer.com)'s video for "We Are All on Drugs" has been edited to "We Are All in Love." Obviously, the chorus was changed a little bit, and the lines, "I want to confiscate your drugs, I don't think I can get enough" are completely different. The video is still pretty much the same as the newspaper still reads "We are all on drugs" when Rivers is in the barber's chair.

actually "i want to confiscate your drugs, i don't think i can get enough" were an older lyric mistakenly placed on the initial pressing of make believe. in later pressings and live, the band uses the lyric "i want to reach a higher plane, where things can never be the same". i think it's funny how the band is so clearly saying "we are all on drugs" in the edit.

wait so MTV can have references to self-mutilation, alcohol, Ozzy Osbourne, and Johnny Knoxville getting kicked repeatedly in the groin..but not have a video with the word "drugs'?

I'm pretty sure they still called the song Hash Pipe...unless that's just a spelling error on your part...either way, you're wrong.

Yeah and MTV2 just completely blocked out a part in Hawthorne Height's "Ohio Is For Lovers" so you hear "so ... and black my eyes" instead of "so cut my wrists..."

i'd heard the unedited "we are all on drugs" on lots of different radio stations before mtv started playing "we are all in love". it's so ridiculous, but i'm past the point of caring about anything on mtv anymore, they're beyond a joke now. (although some other music publications have been letting me down hard lately, so the playing field is unfortunately leveling)

This is like on MTV and the Ocean Avenue, Yellowcard video. There is a scene where Ryan jumps out of a window to avoid being captured and MTV made them cut that scene because it "portrayed suicide". Even though he clearly gets up and keeps running after landing.

Well that's just because they are a terrible band and MTV is helping us from hearing them.

I was wondering what they would do to fix that whole "drugs" problem. How completely ridiculous.

On a related note, I saw Cute Without the E (I think) on MTV2 once, then they blocked out "gun." :uhoh3:

also in the coheed video for "A Favor house Atlantic" they cut out the word sniper in the chorus, has there been any lawsuits over music videos where MTV would be covering their ass, cause Fuse is pretty good with not editing stuff?

I dont get how they can't say "we are all on drugs" but they are able to show basically pornography on it.

Doesn't this have something to do w. Janet Jackson's titty? I know MTV and CBS are both owned by Viacom, and I remember when certain videos were prohibited from airing during the day (including Blink 182 - Feeling This) because of "controversial content." Maybe MTV/Viacom is just watching their asses.

Still, "We are all in love" is hella lame.

i believe part of it is that if you're not a normal cable channel - i.e. a channel someone has to pay extra for (fuse, mtv2, etc) you don't necessarily HAVE to follow all the censorship rules (in addition, if you're broadcasting between 1am and 4am you can air more controversial things - mtv2's most controversial videos, anyone? naked girls, drugs, and swearing everywhere with no censorship anywhere. awesome.), they are just a strong suggestion - i believe. this is all before the crackdown on censorship though.

i don't know how the rules have changed since the janet jackson incident.

Mtv doesn't have to edit ANYTHING.
But they still do it all the time.
Phantom Planet's 'California' (was a single before OC) said 'gun'. LETS CENSOR THE WORD!!
When you censor innocuous words, it gives the idea something worse was said.
A good example of an MTV edit is the song by Everlast 'What its like'. Almost every other line has a word missing, yet it got heavy MTV play. Words like 'whore' 'colt 45' etc were cut...this was about 4 years ago?
MTV is so lame.
I can't believe Weezer is putting up with that crap. Because the video is REALLY good. And shouldn't be edited.

you do have to pay extra to get mtv. it is beyond basic cable - believe me, i only got 23 channels for about 12 years and mtv was not one of them.

Mtv doesn't have to edit ANYTHING.
