I'm looking for some new electronic recommendations as well as some ambient stuff. I'm open to pretty much anything that might fall under those categories, and I understand they're pretty broad.

Metaform released a really good instrumental hip hop album last year as well. Overshadowed by Los Angeles by Flying Lotus yet arguably better.

All good albums and artists, especially The Album Leaf, and then there's also Hammock. Brilliant ambient band. Oh and have you checked out Sigur Ros?

I already have Los Angeles, but if Metaform is better, I'm sure I'll love it.

Nice, didn't know you liked that Metaform album. Better than Los Angeles imo, as far as hype-hop goes.

Better than Los Angeles. Lol.
Check out Blue Sky Black Death - Late Night Cinema, anything by Telefon Tel Aviv (obvious), The Mercury Program - A Data Learn the Language (obvious-er), Madlib's Beat Konducta series, MF DOOM's Special Herbs series.
A few of those are instrumental hip hop, but I bet you'd dig it.
I love it, just think it's a bit overrated.
I always come into these threads to recommend Brian Eno. The new Black Dice is really awesome. Obviously Animal Collective is good. Eluvium. I wouldn't recommend Stars of the Lid. So boring.

If anyone says the Postal Service, I'll report them. This is definitely my area of expertise, so I'll have to limit it to recent favorites or I'd overwhelm both myself and you. There's everything from terrifying drone to Swedish tunes made for dance parties in bucolic fields. My blog, steedebonnet.wordpress.com, specializes in uploads of these genres.
The Fun Years - Baby, It's Cold Inside; Life-Sized Psychoses
Fabio Orsi - Before Long, Before Anyone, the Stars Will Be Walls in My Mind; The Wild Light of the Moon
Max Tundra - Parallax Error Beheads You
Fennesz - The Black Sea; Venice; Endless Summer
Max Richter - The Blue Notebooks
Air France - No Way Down EP
Svarte Greiner - Kappe; Knive
Xela - The Dead Sea; In Bocca Al Lupo; For Frosty Mornings and Sumer Nights
Koen Holtkamp - Field Rituals
Mountains - Choral; Mountains; Sewn

These are ambient recommendations.
Stars of the Lid - Avec Laudenum [this is the king of ambient albums.]
Keith Fullerton Whitman - Playthroughs
Ulver - Teachings in Silence
Arvo Part - Tabula Rasa
Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music for Airports
Raison d'Etre - The Empty Hollow Unfolds
Enjoy, you lucky motherfucker.
EDIT: Anyone who muttered A Silver Mt. Zion, God is an Astronaut or Sigur Ros doesn't know what the fuck ambient is, because there's no way they're electronic. It's post-rock, not ambient, goddamnit. Get off my lawn. Well, GiaA is a little bit electronic. I'll let that slide. But you other people.
I wouldn't recommend Stars of the Lid. So boring.

Stars of the Lid is great, but Avec is not even their best record, much less the "king of ambient albums."

avec is probably their 3rd or 4th best release

Robototron
02/23/09, 04:55 PM
Even after reading this thread I'm still not sure what the hell the OP is looking for (Ambient? Ambient House/Techno? General Electronic recs?), but here goes:
Donnacha Costello - Together Is the New Alone
Gas - Nah Und Fern (this is a boxset of all his shit)
The Field - From Here We Go Sublime (this is basically Gas x Techno)
Andy Stott - Unknown Exception
Claro Intelecto - Metanarrative
Deadbeat - New World Observer
Agoria - Go Fast OST
Pretty much everything Sasu Ripatti has done as well: Uusitalo, Vladislav Delay, and, to a lesser extent, Luomo. Haven't heard his stuff as Sistol or Conoco or his collaborations with his wife yet, though.
