The Avalanches are an electronic music collective from Melbourne, Australia. They are well known for their use of eclectic sampling, creating their debut album, Since I Left You, entirely out of over 3,500 samples of obscure records, movies, and television shows. This is famously demonstrated on their hit single Frontier Psychiatrist.

Listen to Since I Left You. It's a fantastic and overlooked gem.

Don't make your "Best of the Decade" list without listening to Since I Left You. It will seem a little underwhelming at first, but it becomes more impressive with every listen. Plus, how can you not love the video for "Frontier Psychiatrist"?

I know what you mean. I'll be compiling a list for months to make sure nothing gets overlooked, and the day I make it public someone will be like, "hey, you forgot this," this being a top 15 album at least, and I'll vow never to do it again, though I know I'll be at it at the end of the next year.

Are you still excited for the album, or did that disappoint you? I thought it was a bit different than Since I Left You but still retained that basic Avalanches sound.

I didn't find that disappointing at all, actually. They've said that track won't really give you much of an idea of how the new album will sound like, so I'm not really putting a lot of stock in it. Just 20+ minutes of mixing fun.

I find it hilarious that I used to listen to them when I was 14 because I thought Frontier Psychiatrist was cool. I recently started listening to them again when Rick was telling me that SOTS would be featuring that song. Guess 14 year old me had a good taste in music.

no idea what the problem is but i'd be extremely surprised if we dont at least get a single by the end of this year. all their recent activity plus the growing number of claims that it is more or less finished point to that, but in the end who knows with these guys
