Sage Francis (http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=410) is incredible. "Slow Down Gandhi (http://www.epitaph.com/_lib/stream.php?f=Slow+Down+Gandhi.mp3&p=/138/410/4863.mp3&id=4863)" is my song of the month.

although i don't agree with t.i., i do agree with em. too many people write him off because of his shitty singles and mainstream status. anyone who listens to his freestyles, battle raps, or the serious songs on his cd, can usually recognize he's got amazing talent.
this song has been released since like deceeeember. like 3 months before the cd even came out. great song, but i didn't really like the rest of the album. personal journals hit me a lot better.

The dude is a fucking genius. He is absolutely incredible with words and expresses his points so effectively, while managing to make them rhyme and flow...I wish I could do what he can. I know a lot of people in here may not dig the hip hop/rap thing, but just try and take a step outside of that and listen to what this man has to say. There's very few people in this world who really believe in what they write about, and although you may not agree with his views, try and respect the fact that he is as truthful and authentic as they come. I love this shit.

See, I don't think a lot of people are getting the point. I'm not even saying "I love Sage Francis" from a musical aspect (although I do, that was not the reasoning behind my post), I'm saying "I love Sage Francis" from a "this man is a fucking genius" aspect. Sage, as a hip hop artist, shows up to battles wearing tight black jeans, a Metallica shirt and a slayer headband...and SHREDS the competition to pieces. He's a god.
The meanings behind his songs and the words he chooses to express his views are fucking brilliant. All music opinions aside, he is as educated, honest and real as they come in this genre of music. Although many of you won't/don't like his music... his methods and meanings stretch far beyond a genre, or music in general.

I would love to, but I can't seem to get my hands on it. Friends of mine have been raving about it.
IMO personal journals is his best album... by far.
On a similar note... Anyone into benefit? He kind of dropped off the face of the earth after his first album... i think he just makes beats now... his content isn't as deep as SF, e&a, slug... etc... but... its up there with them...

You mean Felt no. 2? With Slug and Murs? Its not Atmo, its just Slug. And for Sage, he's quality, I respect him more than I like his music. I got tired of his album. Want good underground/indie rap, Jedi Mind Tricks or The Coup. Jedi is more hardcore, The Coup is more silly and cool.

No, Atmosphere comes out with a new album tomorrow, called "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having". Although Felt 2 is pretty damn good too - I mean c'mon, Lisa Bonet. Sage isn't bad, but I think that there are better artists out there, such as Ugly Duckling (blow my mind), Heiruspecs, Dialogue Elevater Crew, Brother Ali, Jedi Mind Tricks, Pharcyde, and People Under The Stairs. There is a lot of good hip-hop out there, you just have to look for it (much like any genre).

if you want real hip-hop listen to little brother, murs, anything done by 9th wonder, and consequences or common. oh and slum villa, eyedyea and abilities and weerd science are a joke.
Murs is dope... all of the old living legends stuff is good. I dont know if i'd call e&a a joke... they've both proven themselves time and time again... now they just need to put a quality album together...
The whole idea of real hip hop is absolutely absurd. No one goes "why don't you listen to real punk" when Panic! or Yellowcard is mentioned, so I fail to see why it should be any different in this situation.
It's because rap is so commonly mistaken for hip hop. The commercial bullshit "hip hop" that is out there is not hip hop... it's crap.. and it gives hip hop a bad name.
