I know it isn't "punk," but I'm sure there are some users on here that can weigh in. We were discussing modern composers (post-1800) today in one of my classes. The class is almost entirely instrumentalist, and the lack of diversity amongst everyone was somewhat unsettling. So I was wondering, who are some favorite modern composers?

John Adams.

Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Glenn Branca are among my favorites, but then, they're all very contemporary in relation to "Modernity" being defined as "post-1800."

True, post-1800 was the definition we went by today in class, though, so I just transfered it over. Most of the composers we discussed today were very contemporary as well, I do remember someone mentioning John Adams. I just wanted to see where some other people stood.

Stravinsky. Rite of Spring is the original punk.
