First Trio "Married" in The Netherlands

The Netherlands and Belgium were the first countries to give full marriage rights to homosexuals. In the United States some politicians propose “civil unions” that give homosexual couples the full benefits and responsibilities of marriage. These civil unions differ from marriage only in name.

Meanwhile in the Netherlands polygamy has been legalised in all but name. Last Friday the first civil union of three partners was registered. Victor de Bruijn (46) from Roosendaal “married” both Bianca (31) and Mirjam (35) in a ceremony before a notary who duly registered their civil union.

The Netherlands gave an approving nod toward polygamy last Friday when "the first civil union of three partners was registered," according to an article written by Paul Belien for The Brussels Journal .

So that leave’s what? Youth marriages and bestiality? Probably take the Dutch a couple months to mount these slopes.

I honestly would not care if three people decided to get married in this country. Marriage, as a social construct, is subject to change as society does.

You really are a left-wing idiot. Probably the biggest one on this site. Everything you say is straight up ignorant.

haha, didn't think of it like that. that reminds me of that cedric the entertainer bud light commercial, where he chooses the two women and the beer, then the grill and dog. great...

Politics should never dictate mortality; the term is relative to the person. Maybe we’ll figure that out in the U.S. some day.

Well, it was either this, or have the guy choose one of them to marry to get the benefits, and then they all sleep together anyway. I don't really see a difference, since they all obviously agreed on it.

incest?

Missed that one.........but nothing the European's do supprises me anymore. Of course it is nice that they took calling the "slippery slope" rational "nonsense," off the table.

Why yes I am, thank you..............although I will admit, that unlike the left leaning members of this board, there is no puppeteer guiding me........

well i am a strongly conservative individual............but of course i don't think you understand the difference between a true conservative and a republican, which are what most "pundits" or "cheerleaders, as i call them, on TV and Radio are. They are about as truly conservative as the Bush presedency.

its ok you're from Kansas we understand
Would you quite trying to compliment me.............shit, your going to make me blush......

If you want to take morality out of politics than everything should be done in a utilitarian way and disregard issues such as human life.

Then, why do you sound like the majority of conservative pundits on television and radio.

sounds to me like the same warnings that our own supreme court justices have warned about.

I mean as long as it doesn't affect me i'm not bothered, but since marraige is a religious term is does seem maybe wrong?

Problem with the sarcasm argument is I believe you. Most liberal whacks like me are liberal just because it's not conservative. I'm just not one of them. Lol.

Well, this could only mean one thing. We better not let those creepy ***s marry otherwise the whole institution of marriage will go to shit. Us conservatives need to bind together and make sure those sodomites don't ruin everything. As long as we listen to God to govern this country we can keep supressing seperation of church and state. Who's with me? Let's start a petition. The church has been opressed for far too long in this country.

Politics should never dictate mortality; the term is relative to the person. Maybe we’ll figure that out in the U.S. some day.your statement looks great on paper, but how far do you let individual's moral instincts play into general society. don't you think the consequences could be disastrous? In a perfect world, individuals could practice their own morality and not have it effect others, but that's far from the case. Of course you could also argue that people shouldn't let it effect them, but that's never gonna happen. and that's an issue that plagues both democrats and republicans, when it comes to issues of morality and censorship(if you want to call it a plague). im actually quite interested in your post, just would like to hear some feedback...

Lol. That's fine.

I still don't see anything wrong with this though. If these people want to get married, I don't see how that's a big deal. I'm sure it's possible to love more than one person, so I'm sure it's possible fro 3 people to all leave each other enough to get married.

Ahhh, amazing, looks like some people have jumped the gun once again.

Victor and his two wives entered into what's called a samenlevingscontract, or "cohabitation contract", not the same thing as marriage. A wikipedia entry on it translated into English:

"A cohabitation contract is a written agreement which can to a certain degree be compared to a marriage. It settles the legal and financial arrangements between two partners in a relationship. Other things can also be arranged in this contract, such as agreements about possible children in the relationship.

Since the eighties the contract has become popular with two different groups of people: those who wanted a relationship but didn’t want to get married, and those who lived together and wanted to get married but weren’t allowed to at that time. Because of the introduction of civil unions and later marriage for gays and lesbians, the need for cohabitation contracts has been reduced drastically for this group."

This kind of contract predates same-sex marriage in Holland. Hence, "the slippery slope conquered" argument in this case doesn't work.

Next topic please.
