hey.

looking for a new amp head, mine is fucked beyond repair, and it sucks anyway.

looking for something with a fair bit of gain/distortion/overdrive on it, don't want to be fucking about with pedals. at this time money is not a problem, just looking for suggestions and evidence to back it up, don't want to be buying a bag of shit.

thanks.

are you looking for a dual channel amp? Dr. Z's are really nice. Especially Stang ray or route 66. also 65 amps make nice over driven amplifiers. also hot cat 30r has kick ass overdrive/distortion. if you do get hot cat 30 series make sure its hot cat 30R (with reverb) cuz it has fx loop in it so if you do fuck around with pedals they wont lose its tone.

Ok since people post questions like this all the time, I think the best way to help you out is if you list the top 5 albums or so that you want to sound like and we can figure out either which setup theybused in the studio or what most resembles that tone.

I agree with this. Need to know the sound you are going for, and if money is not an issue, we can definitely get you some great suggestions.

ok, no problem! i don't use pedals or fx so that kinda stuff isn't really important to me!

http://www.mediafire.com/?cdygzykkloj heres an mp3 for our cd, the production is a crap though but yeh.

in general i'd say i'm looking for a sound like off Painkiller by Judas Priest but a bit less clean, if that makes any more sense, think the mp3 will demonstrate that pretty well, just the production makes it a bit more bassier then it should be.

also guys im in the uk, so if you could suggest you uk stuff that would be stellar as i doubt i'd be able to afford the shipping!

the head i have been using is 120w so would be looking for something in a similar range!

cheers for the help

Well, if you want something new, and made in the UK, you might look at the Orange AD140htc or Rockerverb 100

BUT I think you would be extremely pleased with a Peavey 5150 head, if you can find one used somewhere. You should seek out a series I head, as they have the best tone of all the 5150 heads. I know one of the guys in Funeral For A Friend has played one for years, so you can find them over there somewhere.

The 5150 is cool. You can get a lot of awesome over-driven tones with them. A lot of metal bands run the 5150.

If you wanted to go the Orange route, the Rockerverb 50 is awesome. Pretty much the same tones at lower volumes, less clean headroom than the RV100. Unless your playing REALLY loud and in really huge venues you'd probably be more than fine with the 50.

+1 on the Bad Cat Hot Cat suggestion. Those are really cool amps, if your not concerned about pedals (or even if you are, running them through the front of the amp isn't always bad) I would NOT spring for the reverb. The reverb sounds really good, but it is a costly add-on for the Cats ($400 or so...).

hey, thanks for the info, going to look into that Peavey 5150, sounds like it could be a winner, asked a couple of guys and they said the distortion on it is pretty much shit hot.

the orange sounds good as well, but would have to save up a bit more for that, just realised got a couple of gigs soon as well so will probably get the peavey if i can!

i meant stuff i could buy from the uk, but i didn't make that clear because i'm an idiot!

thanks a lot guyzzz :drew:
