The Yellowcard (www.yellowcardrock.com) / Rufio (www.rufiomusic.com) / Moneen (www.moneen.com) Canadian tour has come to an end. In case you were curious as to how the tour went and what the bands did in their spare time, a lengthy update from Erick of Moneen is below. Also, expect the band to get to work on a new album very soon.
10.05.05 | From far and wide, Oh canada... Dom-in -eh - shun.
The fall 2005 "glad we are canadian tour" has come to a close, and we have to give some hard-slappin' high fives to Yellowcard and rufio. Together, we drove from one side of canada to the other and bonded over late-night-parking-garage-poker-games, and punk rawk shows fueled with positive energy.
Much of our time was spent in our champion of a van (fondly referred to as, "dwayne").
It has over 350,000km of tour experience, and it's counting...
Within Dwayne, we watched the trees blur by; changing with the season. The sun would set in pinks and purples over the rocky mountains. Moose and dear lined the sides of lonesome highways, and all the while... we managed to get in some seriously competitive games of mario party 5.
I've never seen such intense competion over a game that was probably intended for
5 year olds.
In fact, fights broke out. Haris (err, waluigi) actually choked the hippy because he blocked his way in the ice skating mini game. At one point during a night drive, I witnessed kenny and haris fighting and rolling around the van because their team lost in a match of teeter-totters.
The word "domination" was declared every few minutes.
Despite the long drives and lack of sleep, we managed to have as much fun as possible.I've realized that tour is basically as much fun as you want to make it; It's all determined by your own attitude. We would go out of our way to find things that are fun to do. Kenny and haris worked on gymnastic style jumps and flips whenever we got out of the van. I finished my book, fight club, which is now one of my favourite books ever.
Peter found wireless internet like it was implanted into his brain, and managed to merge science and spirituality together in the process. He's a hungry man, that peter.
In one over-night drive hippy managed to watch the entire 3rd season of 'six feet under'. Eyes black and burning; this is a feat yet to be challenged by anyone.
Early in the tour, hippys guitar case was jumped upon and mangled beyond belief, then later set on fire in Winnipeg. He didn't mind though, in fact, we all danced around it after the show.
All in all, we NEEDED this tour. We've spent the whole year confined in my basement, working on new songs. But really, we're a band that is meant for the road. Touring and playing shows is what we do best, sometimes it feels like it's all we know. We tend to become restless when we're not moving, progressing. This tour reminded us why we're in a band in the first place, to make friends and fans alike, new and old.
So thank you everyone who came to these shows, especially those who paid the higher ticket prices just to see us, we truly appreciate it. We've been talking about it, and honestly, we can't wait to do our own headlining tours soon. But first, we're back on the mission: MAKE A NEW ALBUM.
We've got the songs.... but recording takes time....
Till then, take care!!
I'll keep you posted on the mario party stats.
