Contingency Plan - It's The Opposite Of Earmuffs EP
Release Date: January 31, 2009
Record Label: Unsigned
Who?
A new Christian metalcore act from the small town of West Union, Ohio.
How is it?
It's a decent release for a band coming from the middle of nowhere. "A Common Routine" starts out fast and sets the EP into motion, but quickly shifts to a melodic sound and then right back into some metalcore. Towards the end of the song the bassist does a guitar slide that sounds exactly the same as "Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over" by The Devil Wears Prada(No TDWP does not own the bass slide, just making a comparison), but quickly makes up for it with a Barrack Obama "Approving This Message". Every track on It's The Opposite Of Earmuffs seems to have the same formula. The guitarists of Contingency Plan are amazing. They create a beautiful array of solos and are extremely talented. Contingency Plan has a great drummer that uses that double bass style to fit right in with the rest of the band and lets loose throughout the EP, which sounds great. The keyboardist work well with them by adding a mixture of electronic bits, samples and places the piano parts in places that makes the overall EP outstanding. Contingency Plan's growling vocalist takes some getting used too because he pulls the ole' pig squeal in a couple of songs ( Check out "Emery" and "A King Uncrowned"). As for the clean vocals, they're outstanding and fit well with the rest of the band. "Where I Need To Be" is a slower song and it shows a more melodic side of Contingency Plan and it's easily the best track on the EP. If your looking for the heavier side of this band, "Ten Armed And Angry Guns" is the track to listen too. Although Contingency Plan is from a small town in Adams County, Ohio, It's The Opposite Of Earmuffs is a decent EP.
Fast Melodic Metalcore, The Devil Wears Prada''s With Roots Below And Branches Above; A Plea For Purging; Settle The Sky
