The cover artwork to The Mars Volta (www.marsvolta.com)'s upcoming live album, Scab Dates can be found right here (http://www.absolutepunk.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=3907&c=7). I've also attached the sellsheet in the replies. The disc hits shelves on November 8, 2005.

I used to totally LOVE the Mars Volta. De-Loused is still one of my favorite albums of all time. But they seem to have gotten waaay to spacey and pretentious for me to handle.
I dig the more "coherent-rock music" than the "dripping-noise experimental music."

as much as i LOVE this band to death, they are not that good live. their experimentalism gets the best of them on stage.

well i think they are good musicians live, but cedric has a hard time in the upper range... and it bums me out when no one sings that backup part in drunkship.

Anyone who has used Photoshop for half an hour can make that same exact cover...

I like the cover it kinda reflects the music and the mars volta are better muscians than 90% of the bands out ther today. and its not noise by any means and whoever says so should seriously stop watching mvt and listen to some real music. of course you can feel free to disagree but the fact that simple plan's album sould over a million copys deeply disturbs me.

i love this band, they are incredible.
If it wasn't for the the text, i could get into that cover, even if it is kinda lame, but the text takes away from their cover trend that i love

Yeah that cover is really lame considering what the last two looked like, it looks like a live album cover too, anyone else see that.
...I'm angry at Max Bemis
I like TMV, but I've never liked their cover art.

and by that, you mean he can't sing in tune for shit live, right? he's horrible. i used to be allllll about them and then i saw them live and it was horrendous. their drummer is an amazing drummer but he plays everything like 20 bpm faster than the records and the rest of the band can barely keep up with him, they need at least one more guitar player to cover all of the guitar parts on the records, they jam out for way too long and they DEFINITELY need someone singing backup. there's a certain degree of studio stuff that a band can do and get away with not doing live, that's just how it goes, but this band doesn't do like 75% of the shit they have on their albums. why play live if you can't come close to sounding like your records?

This may be one of the worst, most easy to make covers i've ever seen..
The Starting Line's last one is up there too..

and who cares about the cover? tons of shitty bands can have great covers.

if you went to the first philly date in may i dont know what your talking about, his vocals were near perfect, and if it was the second i heard his voice went out some of the way thru, but imagine trying to pull vocals like that for 2 and half hours a night, it happens..

Your opinion is invalid. Look at your sig full of the shitty music you listen to. You should at least give TMV props for trying something new.. you must be to used to the watered down poppy dog shit you do listen too.

the cover art can be better than the actual band as well:

Incubus, Tool/APC, arguably Radiohead, anyway it's a short list within rock music.
And by the way, did anyone care to think they just went with a real basic photo for the cover, for more of a stripped-down feel. They obviously weren't trying to be flashy, or even overly artistic with it.

Why does everyone care so much? People just like to hate this band, cause they feel it's trendy or cool to like them. Omar is a fucking genious. Not overly flashy, but innovative with his chords and improv. Cedric sounds fine live....he has had vocal problems for awhile, especially at the end of the headlining tour in support for Frances.
If you think they improv too much live, you probably shouldn't be listening to them. The whole Frances cd was created via the jam sessions of Deloused.
And to whoever said they need an extra guitarist...they have one. Paul formerly of Sparta is now doing the FX and add. guitar.
Best album artwork of the year? Chiodos. I love the drawing on their of the ferryman from the River of Styx(i forget his name). It's pretty intense.

i just got back from seeing these guys for the 2nd time. total fucking ownage. i love how they extend drunkship for like 20 minutes or something.
the album cover for this new cd looks shitty, but who fucking cares? LIVE mars volta tracks? HELL yes.

I just saw The Mars Volta in concert two weeks ago and cedric was amazing. They played Frances the Mute, Vismund Cygnus, L'Via, The Widow and a lot of interlude. Cedric did a better job of singing consistently than Serj Tankian did with SOAD. To increase your appreciation for The Mars Volta's unrivaled musical talent, check Cedric and Omar out when they were with At the Drive In... they were not good, then only two years after they broke up and The Mars Volta formed, both Cedric and Omar had shown an extremely vast improvement. That's the most impressive part of this band, that and their ability to not worry about anything but their music.
