I'm gonna be getting one of these two soon hopefully. I wanted to know which one you reckon i should go for. I'm leaning toward the Zen at the moment (there is the zen one http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=search&searchtype=allproducts&searchstring=zen+sleek&page=search ), but i'd appreciate your input.

Hmmm I don't know Fran, I looove my ipod to death and I don't know where I would be without it, but that Zen thing looks pretty good too. Whats the price difference though?

I think the zen is a good £20 cheaper, but it isn't just that. I've heard alot of stories of peoples fucked up ipod's...and i can just put all my music on my WMP onto the zen like that (clicks fingers)

Yeah I suppose. I've never had any problems with my ipod though I've got to say. Don't forget that all Ipods come with colour screens now though, if thats something you care about?

I just broke my 30GB iPod by slamming into a table with it in my pocket, but I just ordered a 60GB to replace it. Be on the lookout though, everyone expects apple to be releasing new iPods (probably video ones) this Wednesday, the 12th.

I don't know a Zen Sleek is, however, I do know that iPods totally suck and delete songs whenever they feel like doing so. The battery life on iPods sucks as well too. I would strongly advise you to buy anything other than the iPod.

both I like but I prefer my 40Gig Ipod that I got for 250 from a friend with a remote and also a docking station for charging and for transfering music and a remote.

Because all of us have had our songs deleted on more then one occasion and I actually threw mine through my bedroom wall because I was so frustrated with it. The battery life on iPods is absolutely horrible as well, and getting a new one costs a ridiculous amount.

I worked my ass off to get the money to buy that thing, and it was a total and utter dissapointment and I regret ever stepping foot in the Apple store.

As long as you don't use itunes. If you get the iPod, use winamp, my roomate has had so much trouble with itunes. Zen doesn't have as much support but I love my Nomad, plus it's cheaper.

That's because people are too retarded not to change their iTunes setteing or keep Auto update off. That's they they lose their songs. Or they don't manually eject their iPod from the USB plug and play location. It happened to me once. Then I fgured out why.

i love my nomad (i have a nomad zen xtra, 60 gigs). the only thing making me mad right now is this foreign power fucked up my charger, so i had to buy a new charger (however, this new one charges from my notebook, so that kicks ass)

with the Zen or the nomad...do you have to click constantly to go from one album/song to another? or is it similar to the iPod touchpad thing...cause that's a big reason why I would prefer an iPod cause the touch pad is easy to navigate. I don't wanna have to click a million times for one or two songs ya know? Also, how does the relative size of the two compare...and if there was a Zen/Nomad and an iPod around the same price...which would hold more music? Also, which is larger in size? thanks

Honestly, I would only buy one MP3 Player beside the iPod. That's the Dell Jukebox. It's much better than the other brands beside apple. Plus the scrollwheel in the middle it easy to use. Great interface. No battery problems and Very affordable.

Because you can transfer stuff from WinAmp to an iPod too. But my computer messed that up so I wouldn't recommend doing that.

You have to click a bunch of times just for one song, but you can make playlists on the go with the Nomad. The Zen has a touch scroll thing, the Nomad as a click wheel, so there's a difference in that as well.

See I weedeat for hours at a time where I work, and isince it's easy to make playlists on the go with the Nomad, I can choose like 4 albums and random songs and easier skip the songs I don't want to hear and adjust the volume and all that, without even taking it out of my pocket (i can feel where the buttons are.)

My Nomad has better battery life then my roomate's Ipod, I dropped the shit out of it one time and it broke but I took it back and got a new one, that's the only problem I've had and it's much cheaper (40gig for $209.99)

See in the middle it has a scroll wheel which funticons just like the touch panel. very clever if you ask me.

ya my gf is trying to convince me that the DJ is better. It comes down to either the DJ, Nomad, or iPod for me...I just have no idea what to do since I've never seen or used a DJ or Nomad before.

DJ > Nomad. The iPod and Dj are both really good. If I never got an iPod it would have been a DJ. It's actually what I almost did. Although I elected to go with the iPod.

the jog dial on the nomad zen xtra rocks... just hold it until you get there, don't have to keep moving your fingers and shit (a-la ipod and dell dj)

That's a matter of opinion. I'll take the Nomad over my friend's Ipod any day. But I've never used a DJ so I don't know about that. I just love my Nomad.

All I know is my roomate has lost his songs twice, has had to send it off twice for battery problems and once for some sort of hard disk problem.

I've taken mine back once. See hte flaw to a Nomad is that it works better when not dropped on concrete.

Basically this all comes down to preference though. I'm 100% satisfied with my Nomad.

Tanooki Suit
10/09/05, 01:48 PM
I've used all three (though only bought one). From my experience, the interface for the Nomad is the best. I would rank the DJ right behind it just because they are so similar. However, I rank the iPod last because its on-the-go playlisting qualities are sorely lacking. Plus I just love that the buttons are all on the sides on the Nomad Xtra with none on the front, meaning I can grip it and navigate uber-easily.

ya that's what it seems like. Plus the battery problems with the iPod...I'm really leaning towards the DJ...how does the screen look on the DJ? The one I was looking at online reminded me of my HS graphing calculator. (that's bad)

i have a zen touch 20gig, much better than ipod (wma files and 24 hour battery life <3). Had it since may and not a single scratch on screen (being in my pocket almost every day with coins and sometimes keys).

only downside is its a bit bulkier than an ipod
