from wiki:

One of the first prominent European jazz musicians, Reinhardt remains one of the most renowned jazz guitarists due to his innovative and distinctive playing. With violinist Stéphane Grappelli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St%C3%A9phane_Grappelli) he cofounded the Quintette du Hot Club de France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quintette_du_Hot_Club_de_France), described by critic Thom Jurek[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Django_Reinhardt#cite_note-2) as "one of the most original bands in the history of recorded jazz." Reinhardt's most popular compositions have become jazz standards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz_standards), including "Minor Swing", "Tears", "Belleville", "Djangology", "Swing '42" and "Nuages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuages_%28song%29)"

Download the album and fall in love with this absolutely brilliant jazz guitarist. They just don't make music like this anymore.

love it, got into him about this time last year as i was tracing back some of the roots of some of my, commonly referred to as, "gypsy jazz" favourites. just check the list of people who recognize reinhardt as an influence, the likes of b.b. king, black sabbath, stevie ray vaughn, jim hendrix, santana, jeff beck, willie nelson, wes montgomery, john jorgenson (who fans of reinhardt should probably check out), richard thompson, miles davis, etc

what makes it even more incredible is that his 3rd & forth finger were partially paralysed by severe burns. most of those solos are largely played with just two fingers...

Django is an amazing guitarist and a wonderfully influential musician... if only people had the patience to learn the roots of their music anymore... great references to him in the movie Swing Kids, where, like Django, a guitar player loses instrumental digits on his fretboard hand.

one the things about him that completely amazes me. he played that articulately with just two fingers. most players aren't even half as good with twice as many fingers.

my guitar teacher got me into him a few years ago, he's an unbelievable guitarist. the vast majority of people can't play solos that fast with 4 fingers, let alone 2...

I love this guy. I have a bunch of his stuff on vinyl, sooo good. He makes me want to give up guitar, because with a whole hand I'll never be even half as good as he was with only 2 fingers.
