Taken from MTV.com, here's an update on a new Fat Wreck compilation titled Protect and NOFX (http://www.nofxofficialwebsite.com):

Punkvoter, the voter-registration organization founded by NOFX frontman Fat Mike, has a new compilation in the works, but this one is nothing like last year's Rock Against Bush album. It's called Protect, a benefit comp for the National Association to Protect Children, and it features songs from NOFX, Jawbreaker, Against Me! and MxPx. The album will be available through punk label Fat Wreck Chords' Web site starting on October 18. ... NOFX have been working on new material in San Francisco's Motor Studios for an upcoming 7-inch as well as a forthcoming LP — the untitled follow-up to 2003's The War on Errorism. According to the band's Web site, the record could surface in the spring, "if we're lucky."

kind of on subject and kind of off subject...

i saw mxpx last night. everytime i see them i like them a little more. im not a huge fan and i dont know many of their songs, but its cool to see them go from the first time i saw them 10 years ago getting booed off the stage, to a few years ago touring with good charlotte, to main stage warped tour, to co-headlining tours where they totally steal the show.

war on errorism is one of the best nofx records ever and the decline is a masterpiece...they have definately not gone downhill.

That's crazy! You're crazy! The whole world's gone CRAZY!!! ...Sorry...
But seriously, The War on Errorism was NOFX's best album since the classic Punk In Drublic. For old-school fans of the band, it was a great return to the sound of yore, without stopping the forward momentum... Does that even make sense? Anyway, I can't wait for their next one!

NOFX is still doing pretty good. For a bunch of 40ish dudes still making punk music....Fat Mike just needs to learn to shut his yap about politics and we'll all be good:)

whoa dude. i love nofx. i was actually rocking war on errorism this morning on the way to work. but to say that it was one of the best records is definitely a stretch. it doesnt even begin to touch punk in drublic, white trash, so long, or ribbed. even pump up the valuum was better. solid effort, but far from the best. IMO anyway.

yes. just like every band these days needs to shut their yaps about girls. everyone learned that girls have cooties in 3rd grade. they need to get over it.

dude... so long was wayyyyy better than the war on errorism. the notion that it wasn't is so absurd that i can't even begin to debate you on this.

Exactly, Im sick of all this bands jumping on the political bandwagon. Like i give a fuck what a 40 year old junkie with green hair has to say about politics (i say this having seen with my own two eyes fat mike roll up a 50 dollar bill and snort a line of coke on a tour bus in atlanta). And for the record the war on erroisim was by far their worst album. The Decline was good, but their last good full length was So Long and Thanks for all the Shoes.

ok well him doing drugs really doesnt mean much...

if you dont want to hear him on his political rants...dont listen. its really that easy. i agree with a lot that he says but i dont pay attention to much of it anymore. mainly its cuz all he does is run his mouth on the subject...i still like the band though.

a lot of bands use where they are to help support what the believe in. that doesnt mean the band itself is any different.

Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, 'cause I don't even really LIKE So Long... It was the first album that made me lose interest in this band, an interest that's been revived by Errorism. But hey, to each his own!

Hmmm

How can a band go downhill when they were never good in the first place.

NOFX and Fat are a joke. Simple as that.....It's like slapstick comedy movies. They're not going to win any awards or ever be taken seriously, they're just for dumb entertainment. Like court jesters or Drew Carey.

All of you "punk" kids with your homemade Jackets and patches that you ordered from interpunk need to SHUT THE FUCK UP. Take you're immature, bitter, bland tastes back to the gutter where they belong.

:)

P.S. Don't say: "dude, do you realize that this site is called absolutePUNK!? that holds no realivence and you know it" :blah:

NOFX is the shit... and there one of the only bands with a real punk attitude still playin these days.. it's not about hairstyles and tight pants and love songs with them.. it's about music, a message, and fun.

Read their lyrics, there is some funny shit in there, and some worthy messages..

NOFX lets people see that punk music is still alive

You're right, It's about Giant multi colored Mo-hawks and dirty 70's cloths bought at savers.

Sorry but I like songs that have more than 4 chords in them.

And what's so wrong with dumb entertainment? Punk rock is all about energy and being at once fun and obnoxious. NOFX is exactly that, and that's why so many people love them. I mean, I'm as big a fan of "intelligent" and "serious" music as anyone else, but I still love a good dose of dumb fun once in a while! So well, yeah... that's about it...
By the way, you're a fan of Baseketball for crying out loud! If anyone should appreciate dumb, mindless entertainment, it should be you!

what political bandwagon might that be? nofx has had political connotations and references in their music for a long time. perfect government was one of nofx's finest. and that was 1994 i believe?

and slade, nofx is a far more influnetial band and will have a much deeper impact than ANY of the bands you have listed in your profile. they're not trying to win awards, they're not trying to put out 20 albums about beautifully poetic depression or fashionable tight pants. and all these "punk" kids you refer to are no different than all these "scene" kids who shop at hot topic and diesel. personally, i think both groups are retards, but to each their own.

so please slade, i have gained some respect for you over the last few months, but you need to take your naive, "musically-enlightened", faux punk tastes back to the gutter.

p.s. every person on this forum has an opinion. recognize that some people enjoy the simplicity of short-fast punk. besides, the music that all of these new complex, sincere, and unbland groups (such as mae, copeland, and coheed) has already been created before and done 10 times better than they ever will. and it was done by a group known as the smashing pumpkins.

dude no offense, but to call people who like nofx immature when you have bands like the academy is, panic at the disco, and june in your profile is just ignorant. im not sure if you noticed, but a shitload of people got into all the kind of music that's talked about here by listening to nofx and blink and bad religion and green day and lagwagon and strung out, etc etc. sure, it may not be as respected as all this screaming, fashion music that's around now, but it meant a lot in a lot of people's lives. not all people who listen to nofx have leather jackets and patches (in fact, most don't). you seem like a respectable dude, but to write off bands that influenced the bands you listen to just seems wrong.

hahaha nice try. I cant believe YOU of all people posted that!

Go listen to Abbey Road and tell me that It's not dynamic. 4 Chords? No I don't think so.

How dare you compare The beatles ( the greatest band of all time ) To Crappy NOFX.

And to the rest of you. You sit here and say the same things about these "modern" Bands that poeple once said about NOFX. It's quite funny really. You're just repeating history. I never said that I diden't like a little slapstick dumb entertainment ( horse the band ) but Quit trying to make NOFX out to be some kind of musical messiah. thats Fucking outragous. I don't respect them or anything they've done.

not respecting people's opinions and not respecting musical genres are 2 different things. you don't have to respect what they've done for the punk community, but likewise i don't have to respect the beatles for what they've done for the electric guitar. (even though i do.)

there's a difference between being objective and being ignorant.

i'm 2 years older than you dipshit. if people don't like to hear bands with political messages, then don't listen to them. if you don't want to hear bands who sing about attempted suicide after every phone call that they don't get, then don't listen to them. but don't come out of left field to simply say "these guys suck" and "i don't respect them." it's the same thing when people do it to good charlotte and simple plan. if you don't like it, don't listen. end of story. i got on you because you felt it necessary to tell everyone how hypocritcal nofx was and tried to denounce what they have done. that's not right. i never liked at the drive in, but i would never attempt to take away their impact or their influence upon the community.
