What Truly Matters

When I was younger
I used to think about death
But it never seemed real
It always seemed so far away

As I've grown older
I've realized there's something romantic about mortality
Because it makes me appreciate the time I do have
And makes me realize what truly matters
Things like love and friendship

I used to think about suicide
But now I realize that life is a beautiful gift

seemed more like a blog then a poem or song.
the second stanza shouldn't be able to read as one sentence, as well.

A tad too depressing for my tastes but a good 'message' i suppose.... Maybe try setting it out in a more orderly, poetic fashion :-)
