I love Ska music, and I think it's the funnest form of music out there. Who is your favorite Ska band?

I am big on Reel Big Fish after seeing them live in December, with Streetlight Manifesto, Bosstones, & Sublime are all tied for second.

I'm a big fan of several of these bands, but Sublime was the best.

theres a band called "mustard plug" that is really great ska also. Iv'e seen reel big fish and less than jake live and their both really great live, it's a freakin party usually.

Tough choice between RBF and LTJ. But I went with RBF.

Where was Five Iron Frenzy btw? I don't care what anyone says about those guys. Christian band or not...they were really good.

Ah yes. Because obviously a band that has achieved a lot of mainstream success shouldn't count in these polls...

...and yes that was sarcasm.

No, they shouldn't, considering they are not a ska band, and never really were. I love how because Tragic Kingdom had a few ska/reggae riffs on it, people feel the need to label them as such. Not to mention, isn't this poll a matter of opinion? I don't like the band. No need to shit on my parade, slugger.

actually most people refer to them as ska because of their 1992 self-titled record (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Doubt_%28No_Doubt_album%29). Not because of Tragic Kingdom which was for the most part just ska-influenced.

I'm aware, but releasing one ska album followed by four non-ska albums doesn't make you a ska band. I generally don't give half a shit about genres, but there are so many stronger, more deserving bands that could have been listed in this poll.

No Mustard Plug? :-(

I picked Big D, but Streetlight Manifesto is right up there too. Goldfinger always has a place in my heart too, lol.

Okay, I'm not even a Reel Big Fish fan, but after seeing them live last summer, I had to vote for them. LTJ is amazing too, but I don't know that I necessarily consider them ska (maybe pop-punk with horns...).

Streetlight Manifesto.

Aquabats. They were the most ridiculously talented ska band I remember.

Oh and local New York City heroes "New York Ska Exchange". I think those guys broke up though

suicide machines' first album or voodoo glow skulls are better than any of the bands listed imo

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you've heard all of these bands, but I'll never understand how someone could hate all of them. I can understand not digging the genre, but for example, Bomb the Music Industry! sound absolutely nothing like Less than Jake or Big D and the Kids Table for example. If you have heard them all, what are the odds you'd hate them all?

Bosstones are alright, but I have been to a lot of shows were ska bands some how get on the line up and it annoys the hell out of me. I remember when I went to the SYG show and Big D played and it was honestly one of the most annoying shows I've been to. SYG made up for it though cause all of the hardcore kids there got their revenge on the Ska kids who came to "skank".

I love SYG, but I'll ignore the fact that they aren't a hardcore band, and say Big D aren't exactly a good starting point for seeing a ska band play live. I dig them, but most people (obviously including you) can't stand David McWane's voice or the way they use their brass. They're a cult band in the ska world, but to people outside of that, I can completely understand the hate.

where's all the traditional fans? the slackers get my vote of the modern ska bands each & every time

i like the bands who keep those glorious galloping beats, wailing horns, great lyrics, soaring vocal harmonies, & are as much ska as they are soul. that's ska music

I saw Streetlight Manifesto and Reel Big Fish together and both of them were amazing. I have been feeling Bomb the Music Industry a lot lately, but Streetlight still gets my vote.

My vote goes to the Specials, followed by my favorite ska-influenced band: Five Iron Frenzy.

Shameless (former) self-promotion: I was in a ska/punk/reggae band called The Nova Ray til last fall. We're dead now, but here (http://www.myspace.com/thenovaray)'s the myspace.

streetlight's on here but why isnt catch 22?

I didn't see that Sublime was a choice, so I went with Bomb the Music Industry. They're far better than every other band that I've heard on the list, save Sublime.

EDIT:
But maybe thats because they aren't really "Ska".
The Arrogant Sons of Bitches would have been a better choice.

Streetlight Manifesto, then Less Than Jake

i would pick Sublime, but I don't consider them a ska band...to me their pretty much a dub-step band...although they combine punk, ska, and dub

I would pick Rx Bandits also, but they aren't ska anymore...even though they're just plain awesome.
