Sugarcult (http://www.sugarcult.com) posted a long ass blog on their MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/sugarcult) page regarding their new album and producer, their upcoming DVD/live CD, and their latest shenanigans:
Girls, Girls, Girls....and dudes,
Have you heard the song "Dead Living" or "Start a Riot"?
Or how about the one unofficially called "Shakin'" or the one that goes
din-duh-duh-di-di-duh-din-duh-duh-din-di? No. Then you probably haven't been sneaking around our rehearsal studio lately with your ears to the door. We're hard at work getting a whole new litter of future Sugarcult classics together for album ..3; it looks like we're going to get to work with the legendary and always well-dressed producer Mark Trombino. Mark used to play drums in highly influential early 90's band Drive Like Jehu; he's also produced records you might know by Jimmy Eat World, Blink182, Rock Kills Kid, Finch, etc. We've been friends with him for a few years, he mixed a few songs off our last record and recorded "Bouncing Off the Walls" off our first record; it's been a long time coming so we're excited to get into it with him. We want this record to take us places musically that we haven't gone before, we are ready to pour our hearts and souls into it and make it the best Sugarcult record ever, which is also why we are taking our time. The past few months have been the longest 'break" in the history of our band, we have been a band for over 6 years and have been going pretty much non-stop since Start Static came out over 4 years ago, so it's a good thing for us to catch our breath and re-charge our rock n roll batteries. Anyway, we appreciate you all being patient, it will be worth the wait!!
For now, we're super excited about our new action-packed DVD, "Back to the Disaster" which will also include a live CD, "Live at the Starland Ballroom" it comes out November 15, so help us get the word out and don't forget to buy copies of it for all your loved ones for Christmas or whatever (why not give Grandma the gift of Sugarcult!) We might be doing some appearances around the release so check our site in the next few weeks.
Oh yeah, we finally have an "official" MySpace page; we need all you myspace cowboys and cowgirls to help get the word out and round up as many friends as you can so we can feel good about ourselves! Ready, set....go! www.myspace.com/sugarcult -
We did a few really fun one-off shows recently: we did a free show at UC Santa Barbara (where I went to college!) which was total memory lane; then we flew out to Las Vegas to play a hair/fashion show for our pals at BedHead/Toni & Guy which was insane (naked supermodels sharing our dressing room...I know, bummer, right?, a few thousand guests all wearing white, loads of free champagne). Our guitar tech Matt tried unsuccessfully to crash Ashlee Simpson's 21st birthday that was happening at a club nearby (she doesn't know what she missed 'cause as many of you girls know: Matt is a sexy beast!); last weekend we flew out to do a private party for a girl named Emily out in Austin, Texas; our hotel was blocks away from all the bars and nightclubs on 6th Street, me and Airin shelled out $45 and saw music legend Willie Nelson play which was nothing short of amazing! The next night, after our show, we watched this crazy rockabilly band called the Flametrick Subs play, their bassist has no fingers and they have these crazy girls dancing onstage with them called Satan's Cheerleaders; pretty strange, but definitely interesting! Upon landing at the LAX airport Tim and I went straight to the Home Depot Center to see our old tourmates Green Day play their 2nd sold out show there in front of 30,000 people, we snuck into the after party and drank free beers while catching up with the Green Day dudes and their touring family, we also met Tony Kanal (bassist of No Doubt) there who was really nice and friendly, also in the house were the drunk men and woman of Flogging Molly, a few Jimmy Eat World guys, great NYC-based singer/songwriter Jesse Malin, Hunter from AFI, and lots of other smiling faces drinkin' for free! Last night we did it all again as Green Day played a secret show at the Wiltern (a small venue) to be aired live on AOL; they played their whole record in order live; it was a real treat to experience and a bittersweet farewell as they are now pretty much done with the American Idiot run; doing a few shows overseas and then starting their next record; we feel so fortunate to be able to call one of our favorite bands of all time, our friends. Take care of eachother out there, we miss you and are counting the days until we get this new record wrapped and get hit the road again and hang out with you all. I better get some sleep...
high five,
Marko and the gang
