Anyway, I think I prefer Wilco, but Uncle Tupelo still put out some great music.

Hey now Marco, I just meant that was the only Tupelo thread in existence, according to search function. Yeeeeesh! ;-)

This was years ago, but I had a highschool history teacher that would always make the high percentage extra credit question at the end of a test a question about Uncle Tupelo. That's was got me interested in the band, and I've been a huge fan ever since.

I've always found son volt, and Farrar, to be terribly inconstant. Trace is really their only complete album.

Love Wilco, have not checked these guys out yet. I will soon enough.

Just out of curiosity, do you like them or Wilco more?

Just out of curiosity, do you like them or Wilco more? Aside from A.M. there's not a ton of similarity in sound so despite former members I don't really feel the need to compare the two projects. If it's just comparing the two bands like you might any two bands, then well I listen to Wilco a bit more.

I gotcha. That's a good point though, there's not much similarity aside from A.M. I think I'm in the minority that prefers early Wilco to YHF-era Wilco.

Minority maybe, but you're definitely in the smarter bunch. I'm not sure many people knew wilco existed prior to YHF, which is what i think leads to it and the follow up album's popularity over the previous three albums.

The quality of their releases, especially in the later years once the group reformed.

Yeah, makes sense. I dunno, I def still like experimental Wilco too, I just prefer the altcountry Wilco. Just a matter of taste, really.

Either AM or Being There for me. I like all the other stuff too though.

i can see that.
which is why i tend to only listen to their first 3 albums, which i think are mighty fine albums.
but i like the e.p. they put out in '05
i think there's some solid tracks on it

Personally....
Being There = AM > Summer Teeth > YHF > Sky Blue Sky > A Ghost Is Born.
But that's just me. I'm sure many people would disagree with me.

Nah man, I always thought Yankee Hotel Fotrot's superiority over the other albums is greatly overexaggerated. I find myself listening to Summerteeth, Being There, and Sky Blue Sky far more.

Cool deal :-) I guess it is just a matter of personal preference but yeah, I do find myself listening to AM, Being There and Summerteeth more than YHF. It's still a good album though.

Thank you. I've been on an alt-country/heartland rock kick lately. I need to check out Drive By Truckers. I hear a lot of good things.
I don't know how someone likes A.M. by Wilco the best of their albums.. No offense.

Drive-By Truckers are great. Look into getting The Dirty South.
Some people prefer the alt-country side of Wilco, myself included. No big deal really.

It's just too bad they couldn't keep it up. Wilco got stronger and Son Volt fell off. I still enjoy all their albums though, they're just pretty hit or miss. Wide Swing Tremolo has been in rotation quite a bit for me lately.

I'm a fan of all of Wilco's albums minus the latest and A Ghost Is Born. I definitely like their early stuff a lot more though, especially Being There.

I can't get into A Ghost Is Born at all though there is one or two songs I'll go back to now and then. Their new one has its moments but overall I think its pretty underwhelming. Sky Blue Sky is pretty good, I think. Not sure why it gets so much hate.

IMO
Its Farrar's voice, while more unique than Tweedy's, it just gets tiring after awhile...he needs a companion singer, where as Tweedy is a strong front man.
That's the only thing I can come up with, if you've heard one Son Volt record you've heard them all. With Wilco, even during their golden period the releases all offered something different.

I like "Hummingbird", "Handshake Drugs" and "Theologians". Not very into the rest. And I love Sky Blue Sky, probably one of my most played of all their albums. Even if it is "dad rock" ha.

Haha I never really understood the "dad rock" tag. Maybe I'm just weird haha. But yeah those songs are pretty good. But Being There is just tops for me when it comes to that band haha. Near perfect album.

Yeah, in their review of Sky Blue Sky. Pretty dumb, but then again it's rare that I agree with that site in general.
