Yes. what made it such a good browser is its light years ahead of IE. it may not be ahead of safari if your using mac OSX with the RSS news feeds, tabbed browsing and stuff.

bah..i like my colored scrollbars. i actually read an article a little while ago that said firefox had more security holes than IE, hackers just didn't bother to go after it because there wasn't enough users.

I still don't see the big deal about tabbed browsing. I tried it, didn't work. I don't do much so the security stuff isn't a big deal for me. I guess I'm just too used to the Microsoft toolbar at the bottom and all my stuff on it. I really don't see the big deal.

I use Firefox all the time. My school banned Firefox 'cause it got through the school server banned site list. I still keep a little copy of it in my files ;)

I still use IE by choice. I think I'm the only person in the history of the world who cannot stand how macs work, look, or function. And some people I know say how mozilla is similar to whatever internet macs use...which I don't care for. Also, I just use the internet for simple tasks (research, AP, myspace, checking/doing HW)...I don't see how everyone is so big on the tabbed window shit. I mean, if you just open up new windows on IE, it shows up on the taskbar, right? so isn't that just like a tabbed window screen? And with the tabbed window shit, I often try and close out the whole thing (due to instinct) and that is bad many times (like when viewing porn)...I don't like the downloading function on mozilla...it downloads but to where? I have no idea about the progress of the downloads or anything.

firefox is and will be the shit for many moons to come.
plus it has the 'pimpzilla' theme.

You can designate where it goes to or set it to ask for manual selection. It's really helpful to have the pause button and everything when you have many downloads going at once. Also, tabbed windows are nice because they don't stack like XP does on the bottom bar. There's nothing I hate more than having annoying stacks of windows

4 people use this computer, but I have XP and different user names, if I got it, would it affect any of the other users?

Maxthon.

www.maxthon.com

a) has better tabs that are FAR easier to use than Firefox
b) Is compatible with all webpages, unlock Firefox which is still crippled with incompatibility issues
c) downloads the same as internet explorer instead of that obnoxious downloads window
d) runs considerably faster
e) Has customizable mouse action for anything...I can close a tab simply by clicking both L and R click, without having to X out of the tab...makes for faster and easier browsing. you can open a new window by dragging a link away from it's destination, and return back to the previous tab without having to move your mouse anywhere....it's so nice...great for checking subscribed threads on AP.
f) Fantastic adblock (my ap.net shows absolutely zero banner ads) and pop-up blocker.

I love Firefox, and I use both, but there's simply no contest between the two. Plus, Firefox actually has more security holes in it than Internet Explorer, contrary to popular belief.

I still use IE by choice. I've never bothered with anything else. I don't see a reason to change.

As said here, it's right there, also all I do is press Alt + Tab and I can flip through open programs pretty fast.

a.) I find no problems with using tabs in Firefox... it's very intuitive and easy.
b.) The only reason certain webpages don't work with Firefox is because THEY don't conform to W3C standards.
c.) You can get an extension that puts the download thing in a tab. It's neat. OR, you could always just close it and check for your file later. Try closing the download window in I.E. or Maxthon.
d.) I wouldn't know the speed of Maxthon, having not tried it, however, Firefox runs more than fast enough on my computer.
e.) Opening a new window thing: sounds lame. All I have to do is mousewheel-click on a link and it opens the page in a tab in the background in Firefox.
f.) Firefox blocks all popups... and with Adblock, you can block images from certain sites. And with Flashblock, you can block all flash from working, making you have to click on it for it to play.

Contrary to popular Scott Weber "I don't reserch properly" belief, the security threats in Firefox are way overhyped. First of all... Symantec only reported the amount of critical threats that the VENDOR reported... and since it takes a lot longer for MS to respond to anything, they had a lower number. However, since then, many threats have been added. Here's some links, try learning something:

I agree. What makes Firefox stick with me are the following extensions:

Forecast Fox - little weather icons in the lower right hand corner of the browser
Foxy Tunes - displays my itunes info and controls in the status bar
IEview - easy right click - view this page in IE
BBCode - easy right click BB code tools (great for forums posts)
XHTMLCode - easy right click XHTML tools (great for myspace posts)
ColorZilla - in the lower left of the status bar - click it and click a part on the page to grab the hex code for that color - very handy

Check out all the free extensions here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox

And I still haven't experienced any problems with Firefox and it's security holes that are "so" much worse than IE. With IE, I had to rebuild my machine every 3-4 months (format and reinstall windows). With Firefox, I seriously haven't had to do anything in almost two years.

ya see with IE, I don't have to do any manual adjustments...why is firefox so amazing when you have to tweak it for ten years before it's something you like?

i've never tweaked firefox besides changing the download destination folder and it runs just how i want.

in contrast, i've used ie since ie 3 (yes, 3. that was like 1997 i think?) and still to this day couldn't figure out how to get it do to certain things.

also, currently my computer is too old to run ie6, literally, i'm using a computer from 2000 and running windows 2000. it has enough trouble just running the stupid os, and ie takes up so much memory i can only run one window and i can't run any other programs. i currently have 3 firefox windows with a few tabs each, itunes (which also kills memory), and aim running and my computer isn't any slower than it normally is with just itunes running.

does firefox honestly use less RAM? cause I've noticed this problem on my brand new PC (only one year old) when I use IE.

i don't know the actual amount of RAM it uses, but it sure feels like it uses less. i tried to use IE last night to view some site that only worked in IE and my computer was doing pretty much nothing, it was taking me forever to change windows (i've only used IE a couple times since I reformatted and installed windows 2000, which my computer has a horrible time dealing with because it's so old so nothing runs very well).
