Extremely overrated. Anthony is one of the most overrated guys I've ever seen, he's a good musician but not that great. Circa only have a handful of decent songs.

haha yeah thats what I was getting at. Juturna was great, but the last album was meh aside from "Living Together" The first record was good because it was something fresh, but then they follow it up with a bunch of remastered b-sides under a new album title. I had been talking to some of my friends that if the third record focuses more on the instrumentation, and the band as a whole, and not just Anthony Green's vocals, then it would definetely be in the running for some people's AOTY.

I think there are two types of circa fans; the ones who are in love with Green and the ones who are more interested in the musical talent of the band. it seems like the former prefer OLG and the latter prefer Juturna. just my 2 cents

This doesn't make any sense. Circa Survive's first album happens to sound different from their second album. Maybe you should listen to the difference between those albums, and you'll understand that On Letting Go doesn't sound anything like Juturna. I'm stoked for new stuff. I can definitely see though how Juturna and On Letting Go sound the same though, but I love their sound so I can let it pass haha. I just really want them to get a new CD out and go on tour, a year's too long to go without seeing them for me (excluding Anthony's solo tour)

Overall i think On Letting Go is a better album than the Juturna but depending on the mood it could go either way. I find myself listening to On Letting Go more often though. I believe every part of this band is what makes us like them. I for one love the drum work throughout and although not alway prevalent the bass line on songs like On Letting Go, Close Your Eyes To See and Living Together hits me hard.
I like the fact that Circa Survive has their own sound and one thing I think that makes the albums sound similar is the moodiness in the lyrics. I would like to hear more songs like Mandala, I remember not liking the song at first just because I was so use to what they had going already. It's probably my favorite song from them.
Anthony Green deserves the praises, the kid has the midas touch. Well not quite but you know what I mean. Everything he seems to be a part of is usually in my taste. The Sound of Animals Fighting is awesome. And his solo work on Avalon was great, a little weak in the middle but seeing him and the good old war perform those songs live was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Circa Survive though is more than just one man, I think they'll be really big near the end of this year especially with hearing the song Frozen Creek. I got the biggest chills, it's just one of those songs that will always affect you.

That's why I'm looking forward to this record. A lot of the videos they have posted up on their blog makes it seem like they're approaching this album from a different direction with a new sound, which I'm really hoping for. Juturna and OLG were good, but they have the potential to do something even better.

I think Anthony being a third guitarist will really add to it. They really are creating this record in a different way than their previous albums. Is it self-produced? I hope so.

The thing about signing with a major label is that you can't know how it's going to turn out. There's been so many bands that have gone from an indie to a major that didn't survive.

I'd insert my own lame joke with a play on one of their song titles, but I'm completely drawing a blank.
But since Circa is a more established band they might do well on a major label. Look what happened with Anberlin, for example. Feel Good Drag is doing great on the charts.

I think On Letting Go is a better album between the two, "Kicking Your Crosses Down" and "Living Together" are just too good. But, Juturna has some damn good songs too that can't not be mentioned like, "Act Appalled" and "Oh, Hello"

Anthony's voice is good, yes, but does that consitute a good band? No it doesn't. The rhythms on Juturna and On Letting Go have been done better before by The Mars Volta and Dredg. By taking elements of Deloused in the Comatorium and combining them with the poppier elements of El Cielo, you don't get a good experimental rock album. This is especially true when his music comes out as just plain alt rock for the most part. His music does have a little bit of personality. But it is in no way, imo, comparable with the hyperbolic mounds of praise it receives.

I'm so excited for this album. I thought they made a mistake by going back to the same producer for On Letting Go, so the new label and producer (especially one who worked on Lateralus) this time around is giving me a new kind of hope. That, and their studio videos show a choir in the studio. This could be really big.

Yup. The question is exactly how much did he add to that album? Does he deserve any credit for that album's maturity, sophistication, and novelty or do those developments stem more from TOOL's ability as songwriters? We shall see, we shall see.
