Does anyone here have any experience with re-tolexing a head? Advice on the dos and don'ts? Best place to purchase the tolex?

I just recently purchased a used head, and would like to have the tolex match my cab and guitar (and also to get the slight cigarette smell off).

Thanks!

It is a pain, from what I have read. Google it, they talk a lot about DIY stuff like that on forums such as Talkbass.

if you have caused the damage to the original tolex yourself, have pride that your amp appears loved (i know there is a point that its like..."fuck this, it needs it") and take artsy pictures of it. my cab is pretty jacked up, but i love it and it makes for some really sexy pictures.

EDIT: im an idiot and totally missed that you bought it used. I would say take it to a pro. Still, though, take the pictures at crazy angles.

Haha no worries. I'm all down for hard earned battle scars.

It's just that I've spent like a grand on guitar stuff this year already, and I still need to get new tubes. I would like to avoid any extra costs. I know re-tolexing might not sound necessary, but I cannot stand the smell of smoke, and I've always wanted an all white setup.

Thanks for the forum suggestion. I found some dude who posted a step by step process. I think I'm gonna run it by my brother and see if he feels confident in pulling it off.

Thanks!

dude, if you get all white, then definitely take pictures. I've had the same dream and have so far only accomplished an arctic white les paul. an all white amp rig would be sick as fuck.
Where'd you find the step-by-step, this might be something I might be ballsy enough to try myself....if it's ultimately cheaper, otherwise I'll have my uncle (a pro-level upholsterer) do it.

This is what I have so far. Blue Voodoo Crate. 4x12 Avatar. Epi Les Paul Custom. Sorry for the crappy phone picture. Would love to hopefully have it done before summer starts, and I'll definitely post pictures when it's done.
