Ichiro!! I love Manny-some of his fielding blunders are too hilarious. But still a fun player, I can't wait to see him in LA.

strasburg will be a blast to watch. that fastball-watch out.
Ever or present day?
For the sake of not picking any Mets, I'll go with David Ortiz, Chase Utley, Dontrelle Willis, Todd Helton, Joe Nathan, James Loney, and Scott Kazmir. Incomplete list, but meh.

Ever. Great picks! Chase Utley is such a great leader, and hes so fun to watch with rollins. and helton-what a sport. he's stuck it out with the rockies his whole career. if it wasn't for the back condition, i'd say he's the best 1st baseman currently playing.

lol honestly it's so close. pujols has the best batting average, and helton has third. they are both amazing players. imo, pujols has had one of the most impressive rises to stardom in recent memory. pujols is a better pure player. i think todd's pure leadership puts him ahead though.

what's that list based off of? Helton's best days have passed, while Pujols hasn't even peaked yet. By the end of Pujols's career he'll be far ahead of Helton. Helton is a fantastic player, but Pujols is better.

the coors factor is a good argument. there's no bigger home field advantage in baseball.

what the fuck is with this guy and thinking that being a good leader and being a great presence in the locker room makes you the best player?

not even. pedro hasn't been himself for three seasons now. his 2008 season was abysmal, and he really hasn't been a good pitcher for two seasons. he isn't resilient enough to play seven or eight innings anymore, but if he only had to do two or three innings, he'd do fine.
Yeah lets put Pedro as closer when we just threw a boatload of money to Franky Rodriguez and JJ Putz.

All time is no contest: Lou Gehrig.
Current: Always loved Teixeira, so stoked he's a Yankee. Cole Hamels, Nick Markakis, Grady Sizemore, Shane Victorino, Dustin Pedroia. (I know I know, blasphemy, but kid is sick!)
Oh and I left out Yankees on my current list (other than Tex but I loved him before) but Mariano Rivera obv tops the list.
Gary Sheffield, Dontrelle Willis, Josh Beckett, and, if we count players before our time, Ty Cobb.
