Below is an enormous update from Kris Roe of The Ataris (www.theataris.com), covering every single thing that you could ever imagine. This update was taken from the band's Myspace.com (www.myspace.com/krisroe) page.
It's just after nine in the A.M. here in Los Angeles, I am sitting on the fire escape of my apartment enjoying the beautiful sounds of rain hitting the pavement below. It has been raining here for three days now. Reminds me of last winter here when fate somehow brought me back to this coast again. Last night I laid awake in the dark listening to Godspeed You Black Emperor, The moonlight outside trying it's best to peak in through the clouds, the occasional flash of lightning and the sounds of cars driving through the puddles on the streets... so reminds me of summer nights in the midwest. Yesterday evening we began mixing. Nick is truly such an amazing person, so fun to be around, he truly understands the feeling in music. The other day at the studio he and Atom thought that it would be fun to spend the day talking like mexican bandits. So yesterday I brought him in a poncho that I bought at a truckstop in the southwest, we made makeshift bandito moustaches out of electrical tape and took several silly photographs. It was a fun time. Oh yeah I almost forgot... the songs are coming together really nicely as well. After listening to the rough mixes for the past couple months it is so rewarding to hear these songs in this completely new light. I felt that they sounded good before but the difference now just blows my mind. I truly can't wait for everyone to finally here this record that we have all poured our hearts into for this past year. Went on a small road trip the week before last, hung out with some good friends in Albuquerque and Las Cruces, saw Mono play for like the nintey seventh time. Met some cool new friends in Austin. Got some mild food poisoning on the way home, Slept in a parking lot in Cline's Corners, NM for several hours to try and recover, saw Jimmy Eat World play then drove to Vegas and stayed there a few days, saw Sigur Ros, carved pumpkins, and watched every episode of "Life as We Know It". Nick, Todd and I went to see the Dirty Three the other night at the Knitting Factory. Saw that The Album Leaf are playing again there in November. Hopefully I'll be around. Had the best night Thursday... Wine, Koreatown rooftops, Ashlee Simpson karaoke. What more can one ask for? John and I will likely end up playing a large handfull more of acoustic shows either starting just around early November or just after Thanksgiving, we will play abunch of places that I didn't get the chance to when I went out last time by myself, We will likely go along the south through Arizona, Texas, out to Florida, up the east coast, visit Dan, head back through the midwest, out through the great plains, Denver, Reno, San Francisco... etc. something like that.. it's all speculation, but that's how I would route it. But nothing ever falls into place exactly as planned. What else... Lucero are gonna be in town, Will likely go down to the Casbah to hang out. I like that place. John gets into town today, Sean will be out again next week. Gonna be good to hang again. Paul should be coming out soon. What are you doing for Halloween? I still have not yet put together a coustume. I always seem to wait until the last minute. I have been talking about it for several years that I want to be the red and white polka dotted shower from Karate Kid but I always procrastinate about it and then end up with no coustume on Halloween. Anyways, maybe this year I'll finally pull it off. If you are not doing anything on Halloween go to Chain Reaction in Anaheim. Went to see the new Cameron Crowe movie "Elizabethtown" the other night... at first I was kind of unsure what to think, started out sort of slow... but it ended up being such a beautifully, touching movie. You should really go see it. I think you will especially relate to it if you have ever lost someone close to you. Broken Flowers was pretty amazing as well. Despite the "Dick Wolf" ending. Anyways, I am going to go back to bed now. I have way outstayed my welcome on this one. Good morning and good night. -Daniel with an "L" (Kristopher)
