I'm not exactly how sure this would work out with teams, series, and seaosns or even if it would work since leagues play at different times, but I like the idea of the Red Sox (who I imagine would be apart of something like this) playing top competition from around the world.

A Champions League style tournament would be even less interesting than the WBC. At least the majority of the WBC teams have major leaguers. With a CL style tournament we'd only have 3 or 4 teams with MLB players and the rest would be teams from foreign nations with players we've never heard of.

It's not just one team representing the U.S., it would be 4 or 5. And yes, foreign teams would have trouble marketing wise at first, but look at Yu Darvish. He is getting a lot of attention in this WBC as well as Cepeda (spelling?) from Cuba. It would take a few turns, sure, but there are excellent players and teams around the world who could move into the international spotlight (like some MLB teams) if they can prove to be competitve, which I think they can.
