View Full Version : Musicians with iPhone/iPod Touch?

I've just released an iPhone/iPod Touch application for musicians to use for learning and practice. I'm about to "go public" with it--you can see the site here:
http://www.trolldrum.com/
I still have a few "promo codes" available (Apple severely limits the number) that allow people to download the app from iTunes for free, and I'm hoping to find iPhone/iPod Touch owners that'd be willing to try it out, and keep it, in exchange for giving me some feedback on their experience...
If you'd like to play with the program, and are willing to write me a few words concerning your experience (likes, dislikes, issues you had, things you'd like to have) after a little bit, it would really help in making the program more useful for all.
So, if you've got an iPhone or iPod Touch (firmware version 2.1 or above) and are interested, please head to:
http://www.trolldrum.com/contact/testers.php
and submit the form. Note that the promo codes only seem to work with the U.S. App Store... dunno why Apple does it this way but c'est la vie :/
Thanks and regards,
Pat Deegan

Hola,
Sounds spammish, but I don't know.
Yeah, sorry if it does seem spammy... just not aware of any other way to reach out and find enough musicians with iPhones to get a good picture of needs/wishlist/problems people other than those around me would have or want...
I can mail you when I run out of promo codes to give out, so you can kill the thread, if you like.
Regards,
Pat D

Nope, you're fine. Just thought it might be a bot or something. And obviously you're not.

Other than the metronome function, what else is this app used for? I only spent a couple minutes messing around with it last night so I haven't read all the literature with it yet. Also, are you doing the graphics yourself?

Hi,

Heh, great: I'll be glad if you like it and tell everyone you know :) But what I really need at this point is for you to play around with it for a while, make a list of what you like/don't like/wish was there and send it off to me.
I've sent you a code through email.
Enjoy

Well, the metronome is the basic/obvious/kinda boring part. The idea is to replace the metronome used during practice with the actual drum track of the piece but in a way that is better suited to practice.
In short, the idea is to have a drum track that you can slow down. You can also create small loops within the song, in case you want to practice one segment at a time. For more info, check the docs in the app or online and let me know directly if anything's missing or unclear.
Oh, and yeah: doing the graphics myself and it shows as my designer of choice backed out and I was stuck for time... figured the app was more ear-centric, so it'd be ok until the next update ;-)

I've got the app creater on my laptop that I've kinda messed around with. I do a bunch of graphic design and am actually graduating with my bachelors from the art institute this summer. I think better graphics could really make this thing go far. I'll mess around with some ideas and get back to you if you want some more ideas. A metronome app tho is pretty useful and I think our drummer is going to get a copy and try it out on our tour in march

Ah, I think you're correct and that would be awesome! I'll send you a PM so we can talk about this without clogging the forum.
