Darren Doane (filmmaker) recently updated his Trustkill Journal (http://www.trustkillrecords.com):

Well, some pretty cool things going on this week. With announcement of the new IPOD Video, things are going to change. I think film distribution as we know it just got a kick in the face. So in honor of the new direction, I have decided to release my newest film series UNLEADED online and straight to those who want it. Not only is this an amazing outlet for filmmakers like myself, but fans of films. UNLEADED will be available in 3 parts for 1.99 each. Download to your computer, put it in your ITUNES (Version 6 - Ed.), slap it onto the new IPOD when it comes out, or just watch in Quicktime. This will allow for freedom from studio executives, time slot TV junk, and price gouging to the fans. At 2 bucks a pop it basically 6 bucks a feature film. Act 1, with 3 parts, at total of 90 minutes is complete and ready to roll out. This is truly the most amazing step in independent films the world has ever seen. Get ready for artists like myself to start lighting this world on fire with their work. And if you are a filmmaker reading this, get your gasoline ready. I want to see how bright we can get this new movement of filmmaking.

it kinda sucks that now that apple releases a video ipod filmakers now jump on board, but apple hasnt even really released anything spectacular or all that new. archos has been making video players for over a year and a half now and they're much better than apple's quicktime only scheme. and the whole thing about the idependent filmaker online movement, theres a lot of instances where people are already doing it and for free. they just release lower quality copies and then sell a dvd, i.e. red vs. blue and bmwfilms.com. but kudos to apple for bringing it to the masses, even though the new ipods are really just considered to be ipods with "video capability" and this wave is really just testing to see if there is a place in the mass consumer market for portable players. And as long as its made by apple, and advertised heavily, there is.

Heck yeah man, that's sweet. I think this is really cool how Darren is taking student/indie work and promoting it. Good job Darren.

if archos or one of the other pvp makers in the past would have spent some money on product design or marketing maybe they would have caught on earlier. oh wells..

i like quicktime. its clean and works on all platforms, unlike some of the windows media codecs that wont work on a mac (even with media player installed). this is why im so fucking pissed that the new thrice video is windows media only. my whole school uses macs so there isn't a windows computer in sight to watch the thing. =\

this guys videos are pretty sick

Honestly, he doesn't really do anything new in the music video scene. The only reason I care about Darren is because I like the bands he does videos for. His are pretty simple performance oriented videos - nothing flashy. But the fact he gives back to the community is a major plus for him.

i hope i'm not alone when i say i can't afford a new iPod.

if you have 7$ a credit card, and some friends you can afford one. freeipods.com (http://ipods.freepay.com/?r=22537093) now offers 60 GB video ipods for free, i already got my 20 GB last month so its totally legit, just do the video professor offer, spend $7 on shipping, once it arrives call em up and cancel. then you get 5 friends to do the same, its not that hard. sign up here. (http://ipods.freepay.com/?r=22537093)

here is proof i got my free one (http://dobi.nu/blog/images/freeipod.jpg)
