They haven't been on Vagrant in years. I can see this ending up on Doghouse or even something like Polyvinyl.

haven't they been off vagrant for years? their last album was released by dreamworks but they were dropped after it didn't sell the numbers they were hoping for. based on the clips i've heard and the recent success of "scene" bands, i imagine this one will do much better.

Fucking Militia Group - they would be an awesome add...

I want a Saves the Day/Copeland/Cartel tour :)

Vagrant? their last album [in reverie] wasn't even on vagrant i think it was on the now defunct dreamworks which has melded into some univeral subsidiary...someone should def. pick this band up asap it sucks that this process will probably delay the album an extra six months potentially

they are looking for a major. Midtown did the same thing when they left geffen/mca. they just recorded and then got picked up by columbia after the record was recorded.

Not a bad prediction.

Island's been really smart lately. They've sold millions with the killers/the bravery/FOB. They sign great "scene" bands like thursday and the bronx and they just put out Vheissu. Smart label, maybe they'll realize the potential this album has.

in all seriousness, these dudes don't need a record label. Did anyone read about Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! in Rolling Stone? Based off album sales, those dudes have made $130,000 by putting the album out THEMSELVES, no record label. Without the beuracracy of a label, they make a profit of $8 a CD as opposed to $1 or $2 most major label bands see. Based off name recognition alone, Saves The Day could sell REALLY decent numbers. just some food for thought.

$130,000 isn't really that much. Im currently a booking agent at ISU and its crazy to see how much bands/actors get for just ONE show. Thats like about 6 shows for a band. Let Dave Chappelle put this cd out... he makes at least $150,000 per show, or Yellowcard who makes this in 3 shows. Im looking at putting on a festival on campus and its costing me about $200,000 for the bands. So if any of theses work out, I'll give the money to Jason and let him start a record lable, he could do it...

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! isn't exactly Saves the Day, they could sell a ton of records and make much more than $130,000. I think this will be a great reconrd because there was no pressure from a major label this time around. can't wait

Sureshot182

i have no idea who will pick up std, but island does seem to be signing "scene" type bands. that would be cool, but saves the day on drive thru would be beyond my wildest dream. let's just hope saves the day gets the promotion and reception we all know they deserve.

10/19/05, 09:21 PM
pretty sure theyll be back with vagrant. Current tour Senses Fail (vagrant) and replacing Say Anything is Emanuel (vagrant) so the tour is pretty much run by the vag. We'll see though.

InaGreendase
10/19/05, 09:27 PM
Vagrant would be stupid not to take them back. It's a guaranteed 100,000 moved within a few months, plenty more beyond that I'm sure.

Any of you saying Doghouse / Polyvinyl are being pretty naive...it should be obvious Saves the Day could score any monster indie (Epitaph / Vagrant / etc.) if not a good handful of majors.

$130,000 isn't really that much. Im currently a booking agent at ISU and its crazy to see how much bands/actors get for just ONE show. Thats like about 6 shows for a band. What does this have to do with anything? In any event, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! don't quite have the "household name" recogntion Chappelle and YC do, and thus $130K is pretty stellar for a -- albeit hyped the shit out of -- indie band.

saves the day is way too big for those labels. especially since dtr hasn't put out a big album in ages. militia group USUALLY only signs christian-affiliated bands. island will probably be a front runner. maybe universal?

they've got quite a good promotion team.

Less than 12 news posts away from 62 replies praising Thrice's release of a deluxe edition with book. Brilliant idea.

Oh yeah, and all record labels obviously do nothing for the bands and don't help sales in any way whatsoever.

blaubs21
10/19/05, 10:13 PM
yes i wasn't really implying the amount of money that could be made, just trying to prove that bands do not NEED labels in order to thrive and succeed. If Saves The Day really wanted to, they could sell a decent amount of records by themselves without the promotional push most likely. It was just food for thought.

id say absolutely a major label if not a huge indie, this band is so above a militia or drive thru, i mean this is saves the day , a complete staple in this scene and as stated previously it will be even bigger with the huge popularity of emo rock nowadays, this record is gonna be enormous.

and i think we all need a huge record from this band, it seems these days alot of records are good but not at a classic level, we def need another through bein cool, full collapse or tell all your friends caliber album

They left when they realsed In Reverie on Dreamworks. Vagrant didnt take them back because they left the label before the cd was supposed to be realeased by them. Dreamworks dropped them because In Reverie didn't sell that well. So now they are in the same situation was Midtown was in. They are free agents.

some real quick thoughts for all you tikes. although i am almost certain this record will be released on a major, don't rule out an indie label. Mxpx released their record on an indie label. This story isn't all that uncommon. Mxpx went though it, Midtown, Jimmy Eat World...theres quite a few big names that can be put on the list. My bets are on Island or Columbia, but I would love to see this band take over the indie scene again. I would say they will be signed by early november at least. early november doesn't equal the band, but just the time of the year. thats all.
