The song was Never Give Up.
I was wondering what song that was, that was an awesome song.

I REALLY do not understand the SYG love fest on this board. The singers are absolutely terrible (especialy the one that looks like hes 10 years old) and their lyrics are just retarded. They come off as trying to be just like Four Year Strong and actually manage to fail at even being as good as them...

I never understand how bands like that get the crowd moving but Bayside struggles everytime I see them to get any reaction from the croud. They were just amazing last night.
I would rather watch SYG than watch FYS any day of the week.

I was thinking the same thing. As much as I like NFG, the only reason I bought a ticket for that show was Bayside...they put on an amazing show, but I felt like I was the only one excited to see them and seemed like i was the only one moving for their set. But everyone moved around for Set Your Goals, which is fine if they like them, but I just don't get why and why no one showed love for Bayside.
I imagine it had much to do with all the people who showed up just for SYG and NFG.

BTW, where's the love for Fireworks in this thread? Last night they were great, that was the first time I've listened to them and I was impressed. Hell, I've been listening to their record all day just because of their performance.

I agree! I was really impressed with Fireworks. I also forgot to mention that there were two microphones on both corners of the stage recording the crowd all night at last night's show....I may be completely wrong, but to me that suggests that one of the bands was recording live tracks...and seeing that Bayside just released a Live album, and the mics stayed up for every band....I think that maybe NFG was possibly getting some live tracks recorded

I don't think Fireworks is playing tonight. Some band called Verse.

EDIT: Okay, Bayside's MySpace says Verse is playing and NFG's page says Fireworks is playing... soooo I don't know. I just know I won't be there til after 8:30 anyway. Luckily I work basically across the street so I'm good.

Dude Verse broke up. Shai Hulud replaced them and now Fireworks replaced Shai.

Hmm. Yeah. I don't pay much attention to music anymore. I've been to two shows in 2 years, pretty much. Both of those have been Bayside.

they were there. One was far off to the left side corner (near where Jordan went behind the curtain for i think "my friends over you") and the other was on the far right side of the stage where the outer curtain started. I'm sure of it, because I was curious to see if they took them away after every set so I'd know if they were for the earlier bands. But they never took them away until NFG was done

great show last night in STL. Fireworks were good except for the singers voice was TERRIBLE. SYG was great, Bayside was good but nobody seemed to be into them and of course NFG was fantastic.

I took a few good videos i'm in the process of uploading but I just uploaded the best one...the crowd starts to chant "take it off" to Ian from NFG and he tells a pretty humorous story why he can't do it but then he ends up doing it and then moons the crowd. haha check it out.

SYG is better on a smaller stage trust me.
their lyrics aren't stuipid.
they have been around way longer than FYS....

Has SYG really been around longer than FYS? I dunno for sure, but I'm pretty sure FYS has been around since at least 02 while SYG started in like 04...

I guess.. with such a young looking backup singer i find that hard to believe but oh well...
I just don't buy in to the whole gimmick i guess.

"n this vast network of sharks and minnows,
where the minnows outnumber the sharks a million to one,
why is it that we have yet to converge?
to take on the upperhand?
why have we been so scared?"

" often wonder if I'll ever finish all I've started, and the answer I have found is NO.
No, I will never finish all that I have started because life is about doing, the process
And not the result"

I suppose they aren't as bad as they sound on the album... but when ever he just talks them to you it just sound soo bad... and how can anyone think Fireworks has a bad singing voice but like SYG... if you don't know their lyrics you can't understand a single word either of the singers say. SYG's singer sounds like Senses Fail.. bad on the album and horrible live. I just dont get it.

Pretty good show last night in Lawrence. More bands should come there since it is very artist friendly town. So much to do on Mass St.

Fireworks were pretty good. I wasn't all that impressed by them but they were not terrible. (same set list as above)

Set Your Goals was pretty good. Not as good as I saw them at Warped but still good. (Same set list as before)

Never been into Bayside and then crowd during their set really pissed me off.

But New Found Glory was amazing. I was so dead tired after their set. They had so much energy. I was able to get the set list after the show from Michael (keyboards) and then met the band at various places after the show and got my shirt signed. But here's the set list:

All Downhill From Here
Right Where We Left Off
At Least I'm Known For Something
Something I Call Personality
------------------------------------
Don't Let Her Pull You Down
Understatement
Sincerely Me
Head On Collision
--------------------------------
Truck Stop Blues
Truth of My Youth
Forget My Name
Hold My Hand
------------------------------
Tip of the Iceberg
Dig My Own Grave
Failure's Not Flattering
Dressed to Kill
---------------------------
Listen To Your Friends
Hit or Miss
------------------------------
Don't Your Forget About Me (Jordan from Bayside and guitarist came out)

Encore:
Too Good to Be (acoustic and solo by dude from Bayside)
Intro
My Friend's Over You

Last night in Lawrence was so awesome.

Aside from the show being good, Matt Pryor and James Dewees were at the show, meeting them was the highlight of my night.

22 songs by NFG was sweet, and Bayside sounded great like they always do.

Very fun time, more bands need to come to The Granada. It's the best venue in Kansas in my opinion.

SYG have obvious/surface lyrics but they have a lot of heart and good meaning to them.

yes, their singers both suck and that is what will prevent them from ever being more than an opening band with a cult following. they'll never reach the mainstream or a larger audience cuz neither of those guys can sing.

and i am a SYG fan. i'm just sayin'.

FYS has a fantastic album but those guys are NO better live than SYG...and their singer(s) are NO better live than the SYG singers either.

Jordan has an amazing voice live and in the studio. and that's why NFG have stayed popular for a decade now. plus, they're better performers than FYS or SYG.

Fireworks has a lot of potential. i like their CD. i liek their singer. but he sucks live too.

Bayside are fanstastic performers just like NFG, but their darker lyrics/sound/alkaline trio-esque sound doesn't appeal to a broad audience like NFG does.

Bayside and NFG are blowing Fireworks and SYG out of the water every show. just like when NFG blew ADTR and FYS out of the water last Summer.

I think SYG is more accessible than FYS, have you heard the song "To Be Continued"? I'm assuming the new SYG album will have a few songs like that and with the backing of Epitaph records I can see them getting pretty big (as if they weren't already)

the person on the side of me was kinda a douche. He kept telling me not push him or his girlfriend when the crowd started to push a little. I dunno if he was expecting everyone at a pop punk concert to just stand still like angels

damn dude, you followed two full NFG tours?

lol, i wish, no, but i went to multiple shows on each tour. i've seen NFG live about 25 times between 2000 and today.

i'm assuming the performance of each band is relatively the same from show to show, or it should be, because if you're an inconsistent performer, sometimes on and sometimes off your game, you are not a quality performer. the best live acts knock it out of the park every night of a tour. that is why NFG are so successful, they're always on, they're always going off like it's the only show of the tour they'll be playing.

Sure, sometimes Jordans vocals are slightly stronger from one show to the next, but other than that, the level of quality of an NFG show is pretty much to be expected.

I'd assume the same goes for SYG, Fireworks and Bayside, etc. And the bottom line is Fireworks, SYG and FYS for that matter are not consistent preformers and are not great live, particuarlly their vocalists.

jumping around on stage is all well and good, but unlike Jordan, these other guys lose their breath and vocal projection and their performance suffers as a result.

when i saw FYS their singers just yelled the whole time, no real singing. Fireworks guy was off-key and out of breath a lot and seemed to have a sore voice. SYG, neither one of those guys has a great voice, even in the studio they aren't great and that is what will prevent them from ever reaching the level NFG has reached. if you're going to have 2 vocalists, one or both better at least play an instrument, if not, one or both better have amazing vocal range. SYG singers don't play instruments and don't have much range.

I think SYG and FYS are both pretty accessible, and yes i know "To be continued", i have SYG album and EP and i have the FYS album and consider myself a fan of both bands.

i agree that with Epitaph backing them they will get bigger and i'm sure their new album will have some outstnading songs on them, but i just think their duel-frontmen that don't play instruments and dont have great voices will hurt them in terms of mainstream success. Their singers voices just aren't good enough, and when you see them live, it looks like a big mess up there on stage with like 6 dudes in one pop-punk band and 2 of them aren't playing instruments and the 2 dudes not playing instruments share vocal duties yet neither one of them is a great singer like Jordan.

they'll be big in the scene, they already are really, but I doubt they'll ever be on the level of NFG or Yellowcard or any of the other huge pop-punk bands of the past 10 years or so. all the big pop-punk bands have one thing in common; an outstanding vocalist. SYG have 2 vocalists but neither is outstnading.
