Their entire Underground Network took a stab at corporate America and media... Yet they were played on TV and such. I can't quite figure out this band. I do really love the old stuff, but The Terror State disappointed me. From what I heard from a couple leaked demos, the new stuff is looking up though.

I don't understand why practically every major was fighting over them. Don't they know punk rock was soooo 3 years ago? I can't see this album doing well at all..because I'm an expert, apparently.
Still, anyone else agree with the..12 of us that this is a very odd deal?

i don't care what label they are on
if the music is good, then i'll enjoy it
i'm not gonna worry about bein morally punk rock and say fuck major labels, unless the major label does something to cause a decrease in the quality of music
in some band's cases that is true, but hopefully not Anti-Flag
yeah but the point is, punk is a unique genre in that with its music it preaches a certain ideal and political assocation. as in the bands themselves try to be be against conformity, war, and big government, as well as large corporations. so if you're a band who always says how much you hate major corporations and and then join one, you're a hypocrite. that's basically why i hate punk culture. it's such a terrible and poorly-developed philosophy

RCA: You know that line where you say "Fuck police! Five times? Well we'd like you to say "we strongly disagree with the actions of the police"
Anti-Flag: FUCK NO, we're not changing our lyrics for nobody! Unless they ask really nicely and say please.

You fail to grasp the real definition of selling out. Everyone automatically assumes taking more money is selling out when in fact selling out is compromising your artform for the sake of making more money. So I suggest you understand the term before you go throwing it all over the place.
FUCkin Sellouts, they are all talk...corpoate lackies
See above.
And as the great Elvis Costello said, there is something very punk rock in being on a major label and spending their hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce an album that they could easily pay fifty thousand dollars to make and get the exact same result.

you arent grasping the point here either, go up and see what picasso blue said. Thats the point here selling out on everything ypu preached about for the better part of a decade and everything your band stood for is still selling out, you are selling out your beliefs to make more money, NOFX havent done it and never will and to me thats fucking awesome.

.
What i haven't failed to grasp is the fact that anti-flag has always been about being against major labels, governments, rules and all kinds of other useless shit.
In anti-flag's case, they don't have to compromise their artform (term loosely used) to be called sellouts. they've compromised their beliefs and "principles" in order to get a signing bonus. for all i care, they can make the same half-assed worthless punk rock they've been putting out for years. I think they will make the same amount of cash they made on A-F records cause the same people who bought their older records and love them will buy it.
i stand by saying anti-flag sucks.

You do understand that being on a major label makes you a lot less money per cd sold than an indie label right? If they were to sell 50,000 copies of this record on an indie (A-F for example) they'd make far more than selling the same on RCA, so don't assume that major label = more money either, because that is rarely the case. I would venture a guess that it was becoming difficult and tiresome for Anti-Flag to deal with the entire music business as a band and the performing aspect at the same time, as playing 200 shows a year and running everything behind the scenes is one of the hardest tasks in the industry.

They are trying to fuck the system by having the system pay for and promote their ideas, which I think is pretty intelligent, and I don't like this band except for their split with D.B.S. Everything after that was pretty cheesy and got even worse when Andy Flag left.
Also, Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine used to be in a sXe hardcore band called Inside Out who were on Revelation Records. Check them out. Good stuff.

Wrong again, yes it will make them more money in the long run. Being on a major IS NOT about record sales. Its about radio play, distribution and any other pull that a major is going to have to get their music heard by the masses. Once people who find out about music by watching mtv or listening to the radio hear anti-flag and i assume it will be some catchy single that first comes out, Then they will sell a shit load more tickets to shows and more merch and any other crap they can sell to people. The bigger they are and the more celebrity status they have the higher those ticket prices can be. And they can start selling their t-shirts for 20 bucks instead of ten. Come on you should know that.

I know it, but coming from this band, I refuse to believe it until it actually happens, face it, your argument is mostly based on assumptions because this has happened with other bands, and Anti-Flag is obviously not your typical indie-to-major band.

Inside Out was pretty good.
And you're right, wider distribution is an important part of this, and that's part of what I was implying with moving up to a bigger label where they don't have that to worry about. And as for the catchy songs part, they already write catchy songs, the choruses on their albums generally aren't too bad, especially compared to what everyone assumes. In reality, we can't really settle this argument until their album comes out and gets pushed, so until then, say whatever you want, but it still isn't fact or fiction for another six months.

Anti flag signing to a major is about the same as someone like 50 cent or the cash money millionares signing to an indie.
