'Trees' was referred to as the "oldest new song." They were going to play another new song, but the show had a curfew or something apparently. Fairly balanced set, and they performed very well.

Working on photos now. The set list was changed half way through the set from what they typed up and put all over stage. I have one of those if anyone is interested.... Basically, Play Crack was the first of the encore, "???" for the 2nd, plus they shifted the last half of songs around

They were going to play one more song though. I got a set list and between Luca and Tommy Gun, they were going to play Handcuffs.
Also, why are people referring to the new song as Trees? Has that been confirmed as the name of the song? Because my set list calls it "Bride." And isn't it funny how the only people you hear yell "I fuckin love you Jesse!" or something similar are always guys. I get such a kick out of it, especially when some jerk yells it during a slow part like No Seatbelt Song.
I'd like to note that Jesse seemed different then past shows. He was gracious and more personable. Also, moved around a lot for every song, not just Degausser and You Won't Know. It was a nice change. Okay, I'm spent. I practically spent the entire day at the venue, more Brand New chit chat tomorrow and I'm pretty sure Future Breed will have photos soon.
Can't wait to see some of these pictures, and especially can't wait for the Ramapo show in April.

Backstage Jesse and the rest of the band were a LOT more personable and upbeat than I've ever seen them before. They openly joked around with the hospitality staff, chatted about their new album and everything.... On stage, they felt different too. I personally haven't seen Jesse seem so upbeat and gracious since... jeez, I don't know, 2004?

Yes. It's a different version than the Solo Tour acoustic version and the full band Download Fest/Lolla/Lolla aftershow version.

Good to know, what did you think of it?
Okay, without getting too in depth- the new jam sounds like a TDAG b-side or TDAG pt. II, rather than like a new sound. Brand New keeps me interested with a constantly changing, yet consistent sound. I felt that way when it was first played, and I believe it still holds true- despite the fact the versions are different. It's not like it's bad though; they just switched up lyrics and the ending structurally I believe.

the less shows in a row they've played the more upbeat they almost always are (unless they're playing outside the US they just own flat out.) i also think ever sense some time mid-last year they've started being more upbeat and more happy with everything (such as their old material) i just hope its not a trend and its something that sticks around

I personally got back there right before the Dear Hunter's set, and they were pretty much done with that discussion. One of the hospitality kids came up to me after because he recognized me from shooting shows and introduced himself. He then went on about how Brand New was in a really good mood and all that other stuff I just said in my previous post. I didn't get to ask any further about what he heard because the show started. Hopefully some hospitality kids come on here to spill the beans!

Most people for school papers who do concert reviews don't know the band prior to the show. Whether or not they get a good review, I doubt it'll impact anything. School papers are useless

I know, I know. I still hate some of the quotes. It's just so ridiculous, I have a friend who writes for the paper as well and he is very good at being unbiased to other genres of music he doesn't particularly listen to (e.g. a good Fall Out Boy review recently). Anyways, here's what this girl wrote:

It just shows she knows nothing about Brand New and has no ears or something. I'm not crazy, right? Didn't they sound pretty awesome last night? Jesse's vocals were good, he didn't scream as much, and I love the feeling he puts into some of the lines.

What someone else posted on the news page...
I got a funny story from last night's show.
So the band got on and played two or three songs, sounding good. Then, in the downtime between songs, these drunk 14 year old girls were singing brand new lyrics really loudly during their set (Brand new was headlining) So Casey goes to town on em...
CC: "Oh, what are those, Brand New lyrics? That's cute. We're going to play music for grown ups. So if you want to..If you'd like to just...Sit one out, I'm sure you can find your way back to the front, just flashing the various parts of your body. Do whatever you want to do. (Cheers) Everyone's cheering for you because you're so awkward. Someday you can tell all your children, all, all, I don't know how many you'll have. Thousands probably. But uhm. You can tell them all about, you made this big mistake and you didn't even know it. And the people laughing didn't even know it because of how incredibly dumb you are."
Later...
CC: "Those same two idiot girls are (reacting to them kissing) That's good you love eachother. And your parents let you out for long enough to do what you're doing. Isn't that great?"
CC: "Couldn't you see that we were singing a song or were you just so stupid that you thought they were gonna play? Both? The first one wasn't a yes or no question. Both of you talk at the same time that's a good one that's gonna get the point across. This is just stupid. You are probably one of the reasons why bands just hate playing live most of the time. (Huge applause) Ok so I've um. So I'm sorry if I sound like such a dick its just really annoying."
And finally....
CC: "My god you are just so stupid. I just don't even know what to say you're so stupid. You're just so dumb, its.. dumb"

Did he go out and mingle to the merch area or something? That would be amazing if it's true. Because I don't remember you from all the people I was with backstage after the show.
