What's the best way of going about connecting my iPod to my car stereo? I'm thinking of buying one of those special cassette tapes that feed from your iPod to your stereo, but is that the best option?

the best option is to get an ipod ready stereo system in your car.

Unless you're 15 and driving your mom's civic...which I'm guessing is the situation the OP is in.

I have a "monster (http://www.target.com/dp/B000JODKRM/ref=sc_qi_detailbutton?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=15XAHJ0KN5JVB7Q0WAXT&pf_rd_p=465357931&pf_rd_i=B000JODKRM&pf_rd_s=bottom-6&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=5101)." It is pretty decent.
The only thing different about the one I have, is that mine charges while it is being used which is nice I guess.

whatever you do, stay away from the ones that broadcast it to a radio channel, like the belkin or the itrip. they're nothing but trouble.

It sucks cause my Audi isn't mp3/ipod ready.

I had to buy a cassestte tape thing for it and it was like 22 bucks at radioshack. Mother fucks.

1. Go to favorite electronics store.
2. Go to the mp3 player section.
3. Ask the guy (or girl) how to or what the best way is to do this.
4. ???
5. ???
6. Profit.

They can be troublesome when the station starts getting staticy. Then you have to keep changing the radio station, etc. Happens a lot on long distance trips.

Whoever pays $22 for a cassette deck is a dunce; Go to Goodwill or the thrift store and you will see a cassette for about $2-5, easy as that.....or, you could go a friends house and play the "Can I Have That?" game, saving you money.

iTrips and such are a waste of money.

The day I turned 16 I took my car to Circuit City to get a new stereo face put in with the aux input jack. Only took a couple hours and I haven't had any technical problems with it for a year and a half now. The only thing I don't like is when you have it on the charger you have to scroll through all the artists manually on the dash and getting to W's through so many artists just can't happen while you're driving.

mine is like that but also has an option to control with the ipod instead of the deck. check your manual...it's a pain in the ass controlling it through the deck.

i have the tape that plugs into the ipod. i like it more than the "radio" ones because it has much better sound quality and is never interrupted by static from other radio stations.

but the downside is that the cord for the tape gets a short in it about every 3 months and it's annoying to go spend 10 more dollars on a new one.

jagermeister
03/07/09, 08:29 AM
I actually like the tape one, though. It seems more solid/stable to me. I find the radio transmitter ones can sometimes get fuzzy and sound like shit depending on things. That being said, not a lot of cars have cassette decks anymore so your best bet would be the radio one. That, or a stereo with a plug for the iPod.

It's not lazy if you're driving 12 hours and have to change the station on your radio and iPod radio thing like every few miles.
It's just a pain.

I've driven across the country from CA to NC countless times and never have had to change the station once with my dLo Transpod http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-player-accessories/dlo-transpod-second-generation/4505-6519_7-31314676.html I love this thing. It works so much better than the iTrip I had previously. I would recommend it to anyone.

Even in big cities where there's a lot of radio stations I still have no problem with mine. Plus, I've had it for years and it works as good as new still.

Auxiliary Input. Unless you're pretty good with mechanics, you'll probably have to take it somewhere to get it installed, but the cable is like $8.00 and sounds amazing.

Well the best option is to have an AUX input in your car, but if it doesn't have one, you can always use the cassette one. However if your car doesn't have a tape player you'll have to get the iTrip, which is essentially a piece of shit. Or you could do it old school and just burn some songs to a CD.

Well you'd probably need to buy a whole new radio. Here's one for $40 (http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PLR24MPF-Receiver-Playback-AUX/dp/B0013CE47E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1236535983&sr=8-1), then you'd probably go to your local Best Buy and get it installed (this is not a DIY project haha). I'm not sure how much installation costs though.

My car came with one of these :) I love it. Just needed to buy a jack to jack cable & I was ready to go. Although working an iPod when driving isn't easy. I usually just have a CD in if I'm driving, and work the iPod if my mam's driving.

i have the first-gen itrip and it's kind of wearing on me, as the frequency isn't always clear, and your ipod has to be close to your transmitter. i'd go with the auxilary cable, that's your best bet.

I have the radio tuner thing and it sounds bad and is always staticky. Also, I've tried a tape that worked in a different car in mine but it keeps trying to flip it as if it were a real tape. It's a '96 so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.. Any suggestions/help?

I agree with staying away from 95% of fm transmitters. Unless you don't mind static, they are a lot of trouble. I have a Sony head unit (cdx gt320) in my Jeep, and have an auxiliary cable plugged into the back of it. With that and my charger plugged into the cigarette lighter, it works like a champ.
