Opinion on a band name

My band, after a long debate on a name, has settled on the name A Quiet Fight. I am very apprehensive about this name, as it is strikingly similar to the 90's metal band Quiet Riot, and every time I tell someone the band name, they laugh and say we could get "sued for copyright infringement (if we had music online) and that we totally stole that name." Any thoughts on this issue? I really want to change it, but my band mates think it doesnt matter...

It's not a bad name at all I don't believe you'd get sued over it. Obviously if you don't like it, your band should respect that and you all need to come up with a name you're all happy with.

If it were "Quieter Riot" I'd worry about the copy right shit.

If you want to be safe, though, try "Kaleidoscope of Pain" or "Metal Dog Handshake."

You'll be fine with that name, I don't think it immediately brings Quiet Riot to mind...and legally there's certainly enough difference between the names (you only need 4 letters difference usually!) If you don't like it yourself though then thats a different matter!

I think it's a pretty awesome name....honestly, i have to agree that The Quiet Fight seems better, or more attractive in my opinion, but the difference in A and The could result in a difference in how your music is taken, ultimately. What style music is it? For something more mellow (think Death Cab) I would say go with A, but for something heavier, crazier (think anything over half the people here on AP.net dislike) i'd go with The. Again, like many have said, if you, or anyone else are not content with the name, then I would certainly continue the debate. The name of your band represents a lot about you as both musicians and people.
Also, I didn't even think Quiet Riot until you mentioned it later on; I doubt that is something you would even need to worry about. There are billions of bands with names that are very similar. With only so many words, there are only so many combinations you can use. For example, my band is ...and ATTACK!, which often leads people to think of Attack Attack!. My old band was Oh! Disaster. which ultimately lead to a lot of references to Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, and Disaster!Disaster!
Most importantly, make sure everyone in the band is happy with it.

We did debate for a long time whether to go with A or The, and our style of music actually did have some impact on it. Our music is mainly influenced by Rise Against, Something Corporate, and Jimmy Eat World, so we are kind of a mix between Piano Rock, and Punk. So I guess "A" would be more fitting?

Personally I think 'A' is better than 'The'. If you're really not happy with the name then you need to talk about it with your band members. Maybe they can convince you why it is a good name.
