The Matches (http://www.thematches.com) have begun tracking their new record. They are working with quite a few producers. One producer that has already met and signed on to the project is Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 (http://www.blink182.com).

I really like what Mr. Hoppus did with the MCS cd...so I think this cd will be good. Also I wanna hear the Mc Lars song where he samples The Matches

Hoppus did an amazing job with the Motion City Soundtrack album and I have no hesitation he could really help out The Matches.

Rumor has it that awhile ago Rick Rubin was seen at some Matches show and was interested in working with the band. Most likely this is untrue, but that would be awesome.

you kids give entirely too much credit to Hoppus for the MCS album. Tate could've produced it and it'd still sound like an audio candy sextravaganza.

yeah, what was so special about the production of the new MCS?
definitely sounded lifeless compared to I Am The Movie

damn mark hoppus is attempting his "career ender". Times must REALLY be rough for the guy. that blows.

Yea, Mike Green is producing on this one as well, should be a good album.
mark probably had a significant role in why commit this to memory was no where near as good as i am the movie. hopefully he doesn't fuck this one up.

Excuse my biased and completely unresearched comment, but there should only be two producers making records. Casey Bates and Ed Rose. Thank you.

I don't think he can, from the songs I have heard this should be really good.

The production on Commit this to Memory is better than I am the Movie; the songs are slower and poppier because the band wrote them that way - not the producer.

AHHHH MAN! I loved THE MATCHES, now they're going to be lead into the world of sounding like crap just like MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK.

But I thought the producer had a huge part in shaping the songs that make the record. The engineer is the one that does the mixing. At least I thought that was what Mike Green said in the interview he did for this site.

True, but a good producer will still let the artists have their say over what they want the album to sound like, and that is exactly what Mark Hoppus said he did.

Motion City Soundtrack were never good and the Matches WERE good, however after hearing some of their new stuff im really afraid for their new cd

the matches new songs are amazing, and are a HUGE step forward for them. dont be worried, it'll rule

i dont think its untrue. i actually met rick at a matches show before they signed to epitaph. nice man.

Ah, you don't know about this?
I thought this was common knowledge. The Matches signed to american (rick rubins label) before they signed to epitaph. I even think this site reported on it. And this cd was done and recorded 6 months ago, but i guess american really expects them to blow up and be giiiinoourmous. I get what rick likes, he likes the balls out energy that they have, but really, they've not really been able to capture that on cd, which is why they're doing this "multiple cool producers" thing now.

The Matches + Mark Hoppus = Amazing.
I Love the Matches!!! Heard some new stuff and i can't wait for the new CD reguardless of who produces it
Mark Hoppus (definately awesome).....probably could add some awesomeness to this CD OR, he could bring it down a bit, but nonetheless it's the fucking matches therefore it WILL be good if not great!!!!

They're gonna be huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. I can't wait.
The Matches = suck. Anyone watch that show Beyond Warped where every week they show a 30 minute live show from a band on Warped? I've seen FFTL, Mae and a bunch of others.
Anyway, I saw The Matches on there and it was one of the most horrid things I have seen/heard in my life.
And the dudes are complete nerds.

Looking forward to this E.Von Dahl was a great album and in my eyes at least Mark can do no wrong ever.

I spoke with the guys at Warped in Toronto and they were all great guys, seemed really cool. I guess you must be really cool and see them as complete nerds though. I am not very cool so I thought they were alright....
commit this to memory is great for me, so i'm not worried :]

My favorite song of theirs is december is for cynics. If he can make them have a sound anywhere near that then i'll probably dig the record. But if it sounds like that Erin whatever song, then I probably won't. Who's with me?

I could deal with more Eryn Smith sounding stuff, though I would prefer more December is for Cynics stuff. I do not want to see/hear more Chain Me Free sounding stuff.
mcs new cd is garbage compaired i.a.t.m. im not saying its marks fault but.......

Hell yes! I haven't had the chance to hear their new demos floating around(I've heard Shoot Me and about a minute and a half of Sunburn VS The Rhinovirus), but I am a HUGE Matches fan. Yes they are going to get big and yes their next album is going to be amazing. Every time I see them live, they have more and more people there to see them perform and to sing along with their songs. This'll be my most anticipated of next year.

yes, you are right.
if hoppus does to this band what he did to mcs, i am gearing up for another album of the year.

i wasn't a fan of the production on mcs's latest. that cd just lacked something that "i am the movie" had. it wasn't the music either, the production just seemed sorta "blah."

It will be more mature, You have to remember that they originally wrote most of the E. Von Dahl stuff when they were 16. They have definitely moved on to a more creative and intense sound.
