Veda (http://www.weareveda.com)'s van and trailer were stolen after last night's show:

Hi everyone, this is darren from the bled and I wanted to inform everyone that last night in detroit on the thrice/underoath tour, the opening band, veda, had their entire van and trailer stolen after the show. This includes all of the bands personal items, computers, clothes, merchandise, and thousands of dollars in equipment. No band deserves this to happen to them. Veda is an amazing band and are great people too. Their van was a blue (chevy, I think) conversion van with a black one-axle trailer. Both had missouri license plates. I will have more information on the van when I see them and talk to them today. But if anyone in the detroit area sees something like it or has any info on it, it would be much appreciated. Veda is still going to continue the tour with us, but are in need of any help possible, they have almost nothing. I'm sure you all at ap.net will hear more about this, I just want to give a heads up and help my friends in veda out. Thank you.

This whole rash of stealing shit from bands thing really pisses me off. I've never actually listened to this band but still. Even if they were a band like I didn't like (say Linkin Park), I'd never steal their shit. It's just wrong. And it's especially bad for a tiny band such as this without a lot of money.

this sucks
this should not happen to any band
but veda hits close to home.

they played at the one venue in my old home town a where all the local bands and some other travelling midwestern bands play a little while ago. They were very nice (and very good). I talked to the lead singer afterward and she was so chill. I knew they would blow up...and now they're on tour with thrice, the bled and underoath! Now this! Best of luck to them!

I know this is shit and fucking horrible for a band and no-one should have to go through with this, but shouldn't bands be learning from this to actually secure their vans & trailers a bit more? What methods are there at the moment?

I don't know jack about vans & trailers but surely there must be a better way of keeping their shit locked tight?

lol i find that hard to believe... most people who like both bands would choose Thrice over "UnderOath" any day.

Installing a kill switch would prevent the engine from starting and would at least keep the van in place.

When I was touring w/Genghis Tron, they put a boot on their trailer and that stick over their steering wheel...I can't remember what that thing's called.

A steering lock?

Even that would be something small to stop the twats from taking the van.

AP oughta start a 'stop nicking my stuff' section to give bands advice on this sorta thing.

Wow i'm quite pissed.. I just saw them yesterday in Detroit.. they really put on an amazing show.. Wonderful music. And then something retarded happens... fucking lamers. Quit stealing from bands! They get stolen from enough on the internet.. I wonder how no one could see someone stealing it though.. I saw 2 buses right next to the State Theatre but not sure if the van was there or not.. hmm.

first of all, this crap has to stop. maybe put an actual boot on a tire of the van. the wheel boot, like previously stated, would even be something small from stopping the pieces of shit from stealing. if all else fails just get an armed person to permanently stay in the van. however, they would have to dress up in a flamboiant spandex camo army outfit.

You should've have to buy a damn boot for your car or arm yourself to prevent your stuff from being stolen because it shouldn't be stolen in the first place.

what a lame thing for someone to do.
it's not just that they're stealing the van, but all of their personal stuff is in there.

It's the 21st century. Someone would steal a douchebag if it meant they'd get money for it on eBay. I'm with you on this one. Buy a boot (they're only about a hundred dollars), and buy the Club (40). For that matter, invest in LoJack that'll track your vehicle. TJV kept getting their shit stolen, but I think Victory can shell out the grand for LoJack and it would have happened ONCE.

If you've got EVERYTHING you own in one trailer and van, guard that shit. It's the same as locking up your back door at night, espescially seeing as bands live in the van.

Yeah, the club and it's variants are okay, but most can be easily defeated. It just depends on the construction quality.

The boot on the trailer, however, is a really really good idea.

I was at that show last night and it's not just because it was Detroit. That area of Detroit is better than most major cities. Hell, they're having the fucking Super Bowl directly across the street this coming February. It's just that if you are in a band you have to be really, really careful about where and how you park in any major city. There's underground rings who steal vehicles -- especially those of bands -- and store them in warehouses for several months, and then once the suspicion blows over they sell everything. I have heard of it happening to other bands who have been in the area. I wouldn't presume it was because Kanye West was performing next door or anything, but there was a lot less... yuppie audience in that area that night. I did notice a bunch of crackheads bothering people in line and trying to pawn obviously stolen property... but I wouldn't believe any of them had the resources to be able to steal a vehicle of that size and securely hide it. Whoever did it must have been some sort of uncertified professional.

That really sucks for the band though, they had a good set last night and seemed like wonderful people. I was by their buses for a while to talk with the Underoath tour manager about my credentials... they had the area quarantined off pretty well... I guess you can never be too careful. I think it's always wise to have someone watching the vehicles or holding down the fort. Where was the X-Team security or whatever when this happened? They put enough effort into making sure fans don't get too close to the buses... what about thieves?

to anybody who is disappointed in the human race because of this, don't be. the human race as a whole should not be devalued because of these circumstances. detroit no longer counts as a part of the human race. we are a caliber lower. we have so clearly defined ourself as the skeleton inside the closet of America that we aren't up to the normal standard. i don't know about the rest of the country because i only go to shows here, but me and my friends always go in groups of at least 5, drive in the shittiest car any of us own, and leave all valuables behind because you can't set foot inside st. andrew's without getting assaulted by a homeless person with flags on a toothpick. as a loyal denizen of this city for over 17 years, i can confidently say that this city is a joke. i hope this doesnt prevent veda from ever coming back here because they are really awesome. but awesome will get you robbed here.

my thoughts exactly. I had never really listened to Underoath before I saw them on thursday...and for all the love/hype they get on these boards, I was definitely not impressed.

whoever said they outperformed thrice has to be on crack. at least thrice has enough variety in their songs that they can have a diverse setlist.. I got the vibe Underoath's wouldve sounded the same regardless of what songs they played. Even the new stuff sounded like the old.

umm... it's better than no one WAS in the van.

imagine some coked up asshole who sees a van and goes "ooh, i bet there's gear in there." once they break into the van, what do you think they're going to do to some 150 lb. bassist sleeping in the middle seat?

It suck that they had their stuff stolen, what angers me is that this just feeds into the stereotyped idea people have of Detroit. Don't get me wrong there are area that are rough, but for the most part Downtown, where the State, St. Andrews, and Alvin's are near, isn't too bad. I have had to drive and go to shows by myself there, I have survived and haven't been shot yet.
