The most hyped about band in England atm. We have Enter Shikari, America has Brand New.

It's just not fair.

Ridiculously so. I blame the cunts over at Kerrang though for that, Kerrang is just fail.

Nah not really. I think OK Time For Plan B is a decent song, but apart from that I don't listen. I had their album, thought I'd give them a chance but I just couldn't really get into it - there were too many of those interludes also. This of course was not helped by the fact I hate their fanbase, fooking scene kids.

i hate everything to do with this band, but i actually think the music is quite good.

i doubt I'll buy the album, i also think not many other people will either. i see them as a flash in the pan and they wont stick around much longer than what they already have

They 'peaked' too early really.

Reminds me of FFAF - great debut album which generated a lot of buzz, everything else has got progressively worse.

Casually Dressed was too good to live up to afterwards :-( so good.

they did that tour of little venues not long ago and not many sold out.. quite bad. now theyre doing this give it a name at brixton, a venue they did 2 nights(?) at just a year ago by themselves

They are so shit, they supported my mate's hardcore band and they came off as utter cunts, they were shit live as well.

Fuck off with your synths and chugs please.

Yea, Funeral also touring with support from WATO, which to me, screams "we need to sell more tickets so get the scene kids hooked".

The thing that bothered me was how Memory and Humanity was supposed to be Funeral 'going back to their roots', they even said themselves it will sound closer to Casually Dressed, and it was just a huge let down :(

any band that says 'were going back to our roots' means a total let down of an album really, trying to recapture a sound that was them at that time was never going to come off well. i think there are two or three good songs on there, but in all, im not a big fan

and the other band you mentioned i have no clue who they are!!

I still don't think they made the right choice in going to a big label so soon. FFAF are lucky they had the success they did with Casually Dressed and before, if they didn't have that they wouldn't have any sort of a reputation at all.

i think they made the right choice really, how could they have turned it down! the material was too strong to be underground, it was the perfect time for them, the problem was they shot themselves in the foot with Hours, its a good album with some strong tracks, but it sent them down the wrong path just so that they didnt blend in with the crowd i think and now they dont know what they are

I like that We Can Breathe In Space song, but for the most part their music sounds like a mess of off time chugs and weird synths that don't really fit the song at all.

Hours was very decent, I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

We Are The Ocean are basicallyAlexisonfire, but they do everything much simpler and much worse. There's nothing special about them, I can't even understand why they are so hyped up.

I just found out about Enter Shikari when I bought my Bamboozle ticketand was checking out some of the bands I dont know on there. Ive heard a few tracks, I think it was the EP but im not positive, that I was disssappointed in. Now usually I try to listen to other songs on CD than the main tracks, but dude. Mothership is effing insanely sick. There are a few other songs too but I dont know the names of them

Enter Shikari I like, but that EP for We Can Breathe In Space was very disappointing. I agree with the post about Kerrang, that channel is the biggest fail ever, they are in love with horrible bands that failed forever ago and hype up the wrong music

It's not just the tv channel, the radio and magazine are just as bad!

In their review of Common Existence, they actually said it was 'for fans of My Chemical Romance'!! They don't know how to spot small, good bands but instead borrow ones from Rock Sound and the like once they get just enough recognition.

I've been following this band since 2005 & became quite friendly with the vocalist. He gave me guest passes to a few shows & always made sure to say "hi" to me.

Then I realised what the fuck I was listening to.

i just got into them recently. i like it cause most of the fucking florida scene kids know who they are, at least all the ones that i know and hate. as for their new album being overhyped, the only thing ive seen for it was a result of me looking for something about it. im curious to see what its like.

I'm digging Juggernaut. It does have some cringe-worthy moments though (see the line they jacked from lord of the rings). But I'd say i'm excited for a new Enter album. I can't really listen to the old one any more.

I loved the album when it dropped and saw them live which was pretty great but I didn't listen for a while and when I do now I think there is way too much filler and I dont listen too much. Still some good tracks. 'Juggernauts' is ok, a bit of a mess with some lyrical clangers.

saw them at harper's ferry in boston monday night and it was insane..they are the coolest dudes & take the time to meet their fans. their live show is so crazy..honestly one of the best bands ive seen live and ive seen a shitload

From my post in the General thread:

Just started listening to it for the first time. If the rest of the album is as good as the first two tracks (excluding the intro) it will easily be better than Take To The Skies and might be starting relatively high on my AOTY list. Consider me converted if it keeps up.

Since then I've heard Juggernauts as well. I don't like that quite so much but from what I can gather that's one of the weaker tracks anyway.

I really enjoy it. I think its actually my favorite album of the year so far (though I need to listen to beggars a few more times before I jump to conclusions)

Much better than Take To The Skies (which I'm also a fan of.) Its much more experimental and much less scene-kid-hardcore-dance. Pick it up.

Speaking of the album...anyone know where I can find the bonus tracks and b-sides? They aren't up on bsidesrus or anywhere.

everyone who is hating shikari for the hype are mainly just being elitist which is just as bad in my opinion, i lived just down the road from these guys when they first started with the eps and was at some of their earliest shows and it was awesome being part of something new special and unknown. yeah they were a buzz band for scene kids, but common dreads is their best stuff. the electronic elements are more mature, the rock elements are better. in my opinion common dreads is shikari refining their sound. i love everything about shikari. every album and ep, the fact that they did it all diy style, the fact that they spread a good message, the fact that they dont take themselves too seriously and the fact that they stay true to the fact they are british.

i think britain should be proud of shikari and i thoroughly believe they are great ambassadors for british music. They may be hugely successful in the UK now but you cant deny they did it by themselves (the second band ever to sell out the astoria before they had released any music) and have been an inspiration and key player in underground UK music supporting underground music. Believe it or not my band actually outsold shikari in terms of tickets back in the day in cambridge, uk

Well, they're from the UK. Where dubstep was founded. They've grown up around it and knew about it before it was popular in the states. They better pull it off better than any other band here. And they do.

Ah nice one, dubstep fan? Nice one, make it myself! Haha. But yeah, they used to play the tiniest venues around here, some of my friends saw them play to about 3 or 4 people in a youth center. Thought it'd go to their heads and their music would become self indulgent and shit but after coming out with this they've changed my mind completely.

Common Dreads is great, and a lot better musically, but Take To The Skies is a lot more fun. Maybe it's because I listened to it nonstop for like the whole summer of 07, and it reminds me of some really good friends I made that year, but I will always like it more than CD.

That's basically expected from ES by now. I take their lyrics with a grain of salt after CD.

We Are The Ocean are basicallyAlexisonfire, but they do everything much simpler and much worse. There's nothing special about them, I can't even understand why they are so hyped up.

Have you heard any of there more recent stuff. If a poor Alexisonfire rip-off wasn't bad enough, they've gone pop-punk. Awful.

It's good, but my favourite's zzzonked. Just that whole monologue starting with "staring at your stella desperately for inspiration" then ending with "MATE, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ON ABOUT" kills me every time.

Also, yes, these guys play a quality live show, saw them at reading last year. Went in dry, came out wet, it wasn't even raining @_@

I love Zzzonked, but I think Quelle Surprise is better because it brings back that dark vibe and urgency that was on TTTS along with some solid lyrics from the likes of Common Dreads. In my opinion, Enter Shikari are at their best on those darker sounding songs like Step Up, Wall, and basically most of TTTS.

I been liking Snakepit since it dropped, just didnt know there was a Shikari thread. Or at least remember there was one. The song is pretty decent. the first time I was iffy, but its good. I dont see why people hate on the DnB shit at the beginning. I was hoping it would remain prominent through the song... The lyrics before the breakdown are weak as shit. they just seem uninspired and I actually laughed the first time heard it. I was hoping there would be an electronic twist in the breakdown and it got extended, maybe re adding that DnB that shit woulda been fucking ill.. but there wasnt. so for what it was it was good, but not the best shikari by far

Yeah man, quite enjoyed that haha. Felt like what they did with standing like statues, at the end of Solidarity. Hearing them scream STAND YOUR GROUND in Arguing With Thermometers was sweet, too. Not as lyrically self referential as Common Dreads, but you can hear similarities to some of their previous material in some of the songs, like Johnny Sniper to Pack of Thieves, All Eyes On The Saint to Hello Tyrannosaurus (especially the bit in the middle where Chris is doing the growls and the chugging), Stalemate is a better version of Gap In The Fence (for me anyway lolol), and Ghandi, Mate, Ghandi is to AFFOC what The Jester was to Common Dreads IMO. These might all just be me looking into it a bit deep, though!

Maybe a bit in the song comparison. I don't really see the jester comparison besides the fact that both are goofy at times, but the lyrical simalaritied were definitely intentional

Haha yer, it's mainly how they're both the goofiest songs on the albums, but yeah for sure about the lyrical stuff. Just listened to Warm Smiles again, really can't get over when that guitar riff kicks in haha, too good

Not many songs I can play on the radio though.

if anyone has a high quality single edit of sssnakepit PM me. The Louie armstrong bit is funny but it kills the song for radio djs

I'm loving this album. I've know this band for quite some years, when they released Take To The Skies, but I've never been a big fan. This album, though, shows a great progression of their sound and I'm loving. My favourite is Warm Smiles Do Not Make You Welcome Here. followed very closely by Pack of Thieves.

Great album, really have been lucky to be able to stream the past few weeks. "Search Party" is definitely one of my favorites. Interview on the way.

Only two songs in and I can already tell they've made big steps since Common Dreads (which I loved)

Search Party fucking rocks.

"Fit" is one of my favorite words to describe things, but I feel like it won't work over here in America. Can I have your permission to start saying it?

Usually I've only liked a handful of songs of the band's records. But I was really impressed with Quelle Surprise and Destabilise. Saw them at Warped Tour. I was really impressed with them live. And my expectations have been really met with the new album. Might be my first album purchase of the year. This is their first record that I've enjoyed from beginning to end.

Not quite sure how i feel about the album... It seems the heavier songs (which i like better) were already released and used to hype the album.. I love the messages and I love shikari, and yes I do like th album alot, but it might be like common dreads. I actually wasnt a fan making the transition from TTTS to Common dreads... put the CD down a bit, relistened and fell in love.... NOw this album i keep playing all the way through when I listen its what I like to do, and a few songs are just gonna take some getting used to .. that being said I was SOOOO fucking stoked when the album leaked, but I will purchase this one if I find it. My girl even said that I was more excited for that than seeing her. What I wanna know is WHY NO BACKWARDS TALK ON ARGUING WITH THERMOMETERS like in the BBC live one..... I thought it was kinda cool

All that being said..... Did ANYONE get the fake download filled with The Rocks intro music

I really like the new album. But can I just realize now that they will never surpass Take To The Skies, which is one of my favorite records ever. I do not think that common dreads has aged with dignity, however. There are not many songs on it as I listen longer. So I like that the new was so good as it is when I did not have much hope left.

There were 2-3 songs on Common Dreads that I was iffy about, but I really like every song on the new album. I can't wait to hear how a better quality version of this will sound.

Here's my $0.02.

I love pretty much the whole album. They pretty much took their sound and blew it up. Props to them.

Loves are Pack of Thieves, Gandhi, Constellations and System...

Dislikes are Stalemate and Warm Smiles. Those two do nothing for me.

Arguing With Thermometers, Gandhi and Tyrannosaurus are angry Rou at his best.

Sometimes the songs are a little repetitive and the dub-breakdowns were a little unnecessary at times.

God, I seriously have to fight this. It's like trying to lose weight and overhearing a conversation about how great the newest flavor of pringles are.

Right, so I don't like the cover of the LP. Like, for the vinyl:

I think it's one of their best non-heavy tracks to date. It even beats "Johnny Sniper."

Yuppp. I decided not to say anything until I finished the album though. Not quite John Lennon status, but I see what you were going for.

Bahah whatever. Coffee and sweaters? I just like caffeine and nice clothing. And pshant. The indian poetry doesn't count. It's all my family reads.

Hahahha yeah I'm so funny. The thing I compared the two was the line from meltdown. "fear begins to vanish when you realize that countries are just lines, drawn in the sand with a stick," is oddly similar to "imagine there's not countries, it isn't hard to do"

Yeah, the two are similar, but I get completely different vibes from Lennon and Enter Shikari. His music is slower and "hug your neighbor" esque. When I listen to Enter Shikari I get the image of some wild Bolshevik Revolution tearing through the streets of London.

Serious question here:

What is the big appeal to this band? I've tried many times to get into them but I just can't do it. Something about their music doesn't sit right with me when I hear it. Looking for someone who considers themselves a fairly big fan for some insight.

Well no shit haha. I never said they sound like Lennon.
