i've been thinking for a while

you know how itLeaked was originally just a blogspot page everyone could access, like bsidesrus is?

well, maybe bsidesrus is getting popular enough (not to that extent obviously, but you know what i mean) that we need to maybe update it and make it a site similar to that, so then (theoretically) there would be no stopping us from posting anything we want. private, possibly invite-only access, so then we can still post & share the things we're supposedly not supposed to share (i.e. stuff from T&N bands especially, 'cause i've got a shitload of that).

it'd take some doing most likely, but maybe it's time to take the site to a new level, no for shady reasons (it-leaked just wanted to post more stuff that "technically" is illegal), we still want to just be posting demos, b-sides, and other things one can't purchase anywhere or it would be hard/stupid for them to purchase, but with fewer restraints and restrictions and e-mails from bands/labels/managers complaining about the content being posted.

what's everyone else think?

i mean the blog itself, having a blog up with everything we've been posting & collecting over the years, was originally my idea that i brought up to josh, john, solomon, and a few others, though i'm obviously not active with it anymore. i'm just throwing an idea out there.

Good idea.

It is a good idea but who is going to pay for the hosting of said website and who knows enough php and other scripting code to make this work?

Best thing to do would spend the time and make a real forum where we could have it as an invite system and do everything that way

heres the TBS stuff i wanted, if you want it you can take it, it the live songs they've played so far and the release they put out as an exclusive around xmas ( that counts as a b side, and or rarity i promise)

Thanks for this stuff. I'm not sure "Carpathia" counts as a b-side since it's going to be on an upcoming album and we got strict about that a while back. But listening to the live stuff is getting me excited for the new album.

My two cents...

I love the blog the way it is right now. As far as taking it private, I think there are already enough sites out there that fill that exact same void. I hear of new ones every single day.

I do think that it's bullshit that labels crack down on us posting OOP albums that will never get released ever again. But ultimately, that's the legal line we straddle. If we move towards a private site with much more leniency, then you're risking more. How do we protect such a site? Just because it is invite only doesn't make it immune to interest from labels and legal action. Especially since such a site would probably be hosted in this country.

The beauty of the blog as it is now is that everybody can access it. If you go back a few pages, you'll find people complaining about other people on different sites being pretentious and hogging rarities because they're just "too good to share". If we make the blog private, we are no longer the beautiful socialists of rare music and are instead just another elite club of pirates. http://www.instantsmileys.com/smileys/pirate-smiley-06.gif

Besides (pun intended), I rather enjoy the fact that bands are able to support the blog (ala New Found Glory) just as much as they can send us Cease and Desist letters.

There is probably some other way to work it out where restricted music (such as material from T&N) can be accessed by a select group of people. But I don't think that should involve turning the entire blog into a private entity or an invitation only entity.

I also think that an invite system has flaws. It should be used just to be able to access 'archives' - this is an open community and I don't think that should change

Think about it this way you and I (and a few others) seem to be doing most of the work on the blog and us two are the only people who have had the warning sent to our personal email address so how long can we keep going like this before either we get into trouble or the blog gets delete altogether. Change has to be made somewhere.

My two cents...

Agree completely. And lol at the 'besides' thing. Nice.

If they ask us to take things down, it's for a reason most of the time. Record labels/bands sometimes won't know if they're going to use material in the future (b-sides compilations etc.), so as long as we agree to their requests it shouldn't be a problem.

I also agree with this. Making the site private would make us even more of a target and the fact that the site is still running speaks to its legitimacy as being a non-private site. Record labels probably know it's there and that hasn't resulted in the entire site being shut down so why mess with it? Just keep respecting label requests to remove material if they ask and we're fine.

All said, good discussion on the subject.

I noticed a few pages back that people were talking about swf files. I use a program called SoThink SWF Decompiler for those. You drag and drop the swf file into the programs main window, then on the right you have a list of files included inside the swf file, one of them is usually a sound file. Save it as wav or mp3. Easy as that. Pretty good program too :D

all excellent points.

simply a suggestion.

i like the idea of a b-sides forum ala "a hidden place"?

i think that would likely be easy enough to put together, and would probably clear up a little of the problems we face sometimes.

we could post stuff there that we can't post on the blog, and possibly make it an unsearchable forum, so results don't show up in Google searches, and since it won't be a blog, results won't show up in a blogsearch, so it's much less likely that a label or band would even find it unless they knew where to look.

plus if we wanted to post things like rips of live songs, which is often debatable on here, it won't matter because it will be self-moderated, so no points or anything like that.

i think a b-sides forum on a host unrelated to a blogsite AP would be a cool thing.

we could have a b-sides forum & a general forum, since most of us are good friends in here anyway. we could have discussions and cancel out a lot of the mean hipster garbage we have to read sometimes on here, you know? no invites, anyone can view if they can find it, and you have to have an account with the forum to post, etc.

i think it could be fun if someone thinks they'd be up for setting it up?

Change has to be made somewhere.

Just to interject here, I had an e-mail like that which is why I made the decision to leave. However, I don't think that the blog should disappear or be made private. I'll be honest, it was fun until I got some heat and I'm nervous on posting anything "official" now, even if it's out of print.

The forum is cool, basically I think it should be kept a bit smaller to those of us we can count on to be responsible with it, or else it'll just be another headache. I've seen some people here (I'm not picking on anyone specific), but I've seen some people really try to bend the rules - and you can only bend them so far until they're broken. I think it's important that people have that in their heads.

The beauty of the blog as it is now is that everybody can access it. I like this a lot and it's sort of the reason I began posting. I have an easy time grabbing anything off the internet that most people may not know how to (maybe because they actually have lives! :-p). I don't think that I should be the only one to enjoy these things though. The fact that bands mentioned us and we've even made the front page makes me proud of the blog and I think changing it radically at this point would be alienating.

Where were you born though??? It's like me claiming to be a yank cause one of my parents are, it just doesn't work.

Haha joking aside and without the hostility some of us Brits have against some members of the Irish (for things they have done lately) I hope you have a great day and get wankered on guinness ;-)

If you want to upload them burn them to disc then re-encode then with eac or easy cd-da, if you want to remove the drm in another way use tunebite

I assume Reset (Stripped) is taken from the video footage on the Flesh and Bones Electric Fun DVD? I've never seen an audio rip of it, unfortunately. Any out there have that capability?

As far as I know, Fight has never been, officially or unofficially, released. I've only seen it played on the behind-the-scenes footage on the DVD.

What do you mean by "the rest of the album"? I doubt there are instrumentals of the whole thing floating around.

Also, I don't think there are any DTGL demos out there. I've looked everywhere I can think of, but I've never heard or read anything about them existing. Where did you hear about them?

Marigold isn't an underOATH song...somebody just put their name on it and uploaded it to a bunch of places to catch people's attention.

This instrumental is most likely from Rock Band. So, even though there are not more instrumentals from the album, there are probably more stems floating around from this track, i.e. Drums, Bass, Guitar, Vocals all separate.

DFTL leaked very early and the leaked version was deemed an unfinished version by the band. It is missing some guitar and vocal parts and is unmixed and unmastered, in a raw state. The tracklisting and all the track names are jumbled up and one track cuts off halfway through. I have them, but as it was a leak I'm not sure it is ok to post. I've PM'd them before if anyone is interested... but I'm in my University library writing a massive paper right now, so it will be awhile before I have a chance to upload anything.

I also found this blog (http://mudpuppy.wordpress.com/2008/05/04/mute-math-worship-cd/) from some guy all about Mute Math info. Apparently the guys from Mute Math sing/play on a Christian-revival benefit CD called 'Elevator Music' - the lyrics are...well...all about Jesus. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but still.... It's a little strange to hear. You can stream the songs on the page.

"An update to the whole is this real/is it fake? why aren't u sharing this....well, this CD is an "experiment" gone wrong for Tooth&Nail....they were gonna try making an 'instrumental' version of most new releases so that it's easier to do voice-overs for marketing/advertisement....well, the CD wasn't suppose to be released outside of company hands....some idiot @ T&N head office decided to start sellin' copies on Ebay.....long story short, any copy of this CD that is sold on Ebay is followed by a nice email from T&N's Marketing department within 48hrs statin' that the CD being shared violates copyright laws & criminal persecutions might happen.." (direct link to the post (http://www.christiandl.com/index.php/topic,41524.msg434538.html#msg43453 8))

so yeah, apparently there are some extremely rare copies of the instrumental album floating around. either that or the dude is a big fat liar. heh.
Whoah...that's cool. Hopefully he's telling the truth. I'll do some looking around online tonight and see if I come up with anything.

Ha, the album art for the instrumental was a picture of an instrumental promo version of LITSOS, so I was wondering if anybody knew anything about it.

Yeah, I meant the leaked version.

And thanks about Marigold.
Hey, would you mind uploading that art? I'd like to see it.
But yeah, no problem.

They spelled "separation" wrong...wouldn't it be rad if CDs like these existed for every album they were releasing?

Lots of bands have instrumental acetate cd's (we get a lot at work) and they are really quickly produced and some of them are really common and you see them everywhere but it just depends on the band. So it's probably not bs on this one.

Thank you!!!

Where did you get the stems from if you don't mind me asking? :-)

I would also love to know where you managed to get the stems :). And if you have the stems [or even just secluded stem parts] from other tracks?

Also, I made an instrumental version of "I Found Away" using the stems :D! I plan to fiddle around with this stuff, and maybe add the intro or something to the instrumental. Maybe make a mini EP with a few variations. Anyways, until then, here is the instrumental in FLAC format:

The quality of the other tracks are varied:

1.) Give It A Name, Call It A Franchise [Demo] -- 160kbs
2.) Some Things Just Never Burn, Some Giants Just Never Fall (Dialogue With A Question Mark)[Demo] -- 301 kbs vbr (not sure if this is a transcode or not, I don't want to get slaughtered by the super-quality patrol)

1.) Elvish Presley (And Shot Each Other) [Demo] -- 320 kbs

I am going to have the Multi-Track version [which is just all the stems combined; so basically the album version]
Instrumental

Acapella
Acapella + ? [gonna see what sounds good]
Maybe a custom remix too?

We'll see what happens.

Here is 99% of the "I Found Away" EP thing I was making and talking about. I am in the process of making a remix for the contest, which I will share when complete IF I decide I like what the final product turns out to be :). Here is what I have so far:

I Found Away Sessions
Alkaline Trio - I Found Away (Instrumental) [4:11] - (320 kbps)
Alkaline Trio - I Found Away (Instrumental + Intro) [4:11] - (320 kbps)
Alkaline Trio - I Found Away (Acapella) [4:11] - (320 kbps)
Alkaline Trio - I Found Away (DnB Acapella) [4:12] - (320 kbps)
Link: http://sharebee.com/4c46d4fa

NOTE: I did not include the multitrack since it's more or less the album version. That is why the track numbers start at 02. Also, the DnB (drum and bass) Acapella was done when I was kinda drunk, so it may not sound that great LOL. I used the drum and bass stems, so expect it to sound like the album track, with no guitar or synth, and missing BG vocals and drums in some parts.

Enjoy :)!

Yes and No.

The two bonus tracks on TIS are the same tracks as the versions on TPATP (which has about 6 bonus tracks).

US iTunes calls the tracks 'album only', but UK iTunes does not (this occasionally happens).

They would be 256kbps quality...

No one has these. They are songs that were written and mentioned by name in an interview, but they were never even demoed. This is straight from a friend of mine who is friends with Ryan Key.

that was fast haha! I'm dling this now but I'm not gonna listen till the morning. I hope you post your remix for the contest, I'd love to hear it!

also, does anyone have the stems for "Bad Sects" by Cursive? I'm assuming they're out there because they had a remix contest a while ago.

I do indeed still have the stems for Bad Sects. Would you like the mp3s, WAVs, or both?

This has probably already been asked after, but I can't find anything in the Search function, so...here goes...

The instrumental version of Razia's Shadow by Forgive Durden? I would love this and don't think I can purchase it outside of the US - any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Ah I used to love that site....just a shame all the b-sides/rare songs on there are transcoded shite from all the other Cold sites that used to be around (coldcastle, Cold Yahoo! Groups, Goeaway, Justgotwicked etc).

Since we are on the subject of Cold does anyone happen to have the promo version of Year Of The Spider that came out a year before the CD just I can't seem to place my promo at the moment.

If you pre-order the new Great Lake Swimmers album from iTunes Canada, there are 2 bonus tracks and 2 pre-order tracks. I would KILL to have these songs, if anyone is able to get them. The album comes out on 3/31.

iTunes Canada Pre-Order tracks:

He's Very Good With Animals
Down At The Canmore Hotel

iTunes Canada Bonus tracks:

I also came across a pretty cool remix the other day that someone did: "Sad Sects (Remix by Luke Tripp) (http://sharebee.com/7c10da5a)"

I came across some other Saddle Creek/Cursive stuff that people may be interested in. Let me know if anybody wants any of this:

Album Of The Year Enhanced Bonus Videos (four songs, includes a Slowdown Virginia cover)

Smashmouth - Some Of You Will Be Hermits (not THAT Smashmouth, pre-Cursive without Tim)

Tim Kasher and Conor Oberst - TRC 112 The Color Grey is a Formidable Opponent (aka The Improv Tape) (This is basically what it sounds like. Terribly quiet and horribly recorded, but good listening if you like either person)

Dead Space (Slowdown Virginia's only full length. This is a "better" rip than the version I had)

I have a request in the Saddle Creek vein: does anybody have anything by Ladyfingers (ne)? I know their first s/t EP is out of print. But if you have either "Heavy Hands" or "Dusk", could you hook me up via PM? I know both full lengths are still available but I have a feeling that I'd like the band. I just want to sample it first and the only thing I can find is streaming audio and I don't do most of my new music listening at the computer. Thanks.

i have it in 128 kbps. i can post it later if nobody has any higher. but ill wait a little while to see.

OK... question: i have a mac and us the stuffit expander to open all my .rar files. but how do i archive a folder and put it into a .rar format? do i need another program for that? thanks for any help.

Is a .zip file also acceptable? If so, you can right click on the file, and there should be an option to compress or archive the file.

That's cool.

By the way, if you bought it yourself in the iTunes store, you should be able upgrade it to 256kbps for something like 30 cents.

Do you have the reissue tracks? Apart from that, none

Thanks! I still need to figure it out though. It's really bothering me that I can't see the code anymore (unless I screwed my settings up?).
