:appl: .............Of course I don't think anyone thought she'd make it through the judicial committee.

thank the lord. i'm sure im not going to like any of Bush's nominees, but this one would have really been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court (unlike Roberts, who can actually make a case for being qualified).

She didn't have a chance of getting confirmed anyway. She had no judicial experience, no constitutional law experience; any case work she did as a lawyer, she could avoid criticism on by saying she was "just representing her client." And Dubya wouldn't give the Senate the records of her legal counsel to him. Schumer put it best: Dubya said "once you get to know her, you'll like her," and then wouldn't let the senate get to know her.

Oh well, I guess he'll have to nominate a qualified candidate this time.

Chances are you're going to really hate his next pick, who I think it goes without saying, will be considerable more conservative then Miers or Roberts...........it wouldn't surprise me if the next nominee is an ideologue in essences ginsburg.

You obviously have no idea what the practice of law entails.

Yeah, the next confirmation should be interesting, to say the least.

did you hear that there now saying confirmation hearings probably won't be held until after the first of the year because of the holiday seasons and senate time constraints?
Given that much time to dig up "dirt" this should be a really interesting confirmation process......

ALBERTO GONZALES. Working in the white house would be a sweet job. judging by gonzales' case, you get a promotion every three months for doing absolutely nothing.

Regardless, I'm conservative and it embarrassed me the way that the republicans came down on meirs. They didn't care about her law credibility. They saw her as someone who may not be willing to overturn Roe v. Wade, or might not take a conservative stance on cases like Schiavo's or fiscal conservatism. I agree she isn't qualified, but only because of reasons of law. It's embarrassing that we are playing 'Who's got the longer dick' here rather than trying to bring a nomination for justice and equality. What I don't think the majority of people understand is that Roe v. Wade didn't make abortion legal, it just gave the federal courts jurisdiction instead of the states. All that would happen, if overturned, is that some southern, right wing states, would vote to ban abortion, and all the constituents living there would just go to a different state to get one. Overturning Roe v. Wade will do nothing but tear this country farther apart. I take a conservative stance on abortion and i can't believe how dumb these neocons are getting right now. People are morons.

You obviously have no idea what the practice of law entails. You are obviously an idiot.

The practice of law entails representing the best interests of your clients, not necessarily your particular personal beliefs. Therefore, smart guy, if the Senate could only look at her own trial work, they would say "Oh, do you really think XYZ? Because you argued it in ABC case." And she would say "No, I don' t necessarily believe XYZ, I was just zealously advocating for my client."

In case you haven't been paying attention, that's one of the issues that was brought up in the Roberts confirmation hearings. But with Roberts--unlike Miers--they also had a judicial record to go on, in which he did represent his own beliefs about the interpretation of the law.

But thanks for the attempt at an insult, it keeps me entertained.

alot of you don't have a clue, and that could have gone without saying.

The next nominee will be someone with alot of experience and a nice, clear, long paper trail. Democrats won't approve anyone remotely to the right. Look for the moderates.
