OK i'm getting sick of them doing this. All he did was produce the movie. When Sin City came out, they made sure his name was up there in huge writing...all he did was direct one short scene (Dead Benecio Del Toro talking to Clive Owen in the cab). Odds are you won't be able to notice any Tarantino trademarks in this movie.
However, it does look like the shit. I cannot wait for this movie.

Did he even produce it? I know he has a deal with Miramax where if he likes an indepent-ish movie he can get them to release it with his name on it...ie, Hero. That was big in Japan he had Miramax bring it over and it was Quentin Tarantino presents:
But its really annoying. Don't try to get me to see a movie for a name...

IMDB.com says that he was an executive producer, but i've heard in DVD commentaries that sometimes they just toss shit like that on there to give a movie more credibility.

It isn't a Tarantino flick, it's an Eli Roth film. Also, Tarantino tossed his name on as an executive producer AFTER it was made, because he thought it was good. It was more or less just trying to help a baby picture get big, and Eli Roth was the guy who made Cabin Fever. So you know this will be ridiculous. And sickly entertaining.
Edit: From IMDB directly, "The trailers bill the movie as "inspired by true events." Director Eli Roth says that he found a Thai website that advertised itself as a "murder vacation," offering users the chance to torture and kill someone for the price of $10,000. Roth later showed the site to Quentin Tarantino and the two developed the idea for the film. Tarantino and Roth said later on an Icelandic talk show that they have no idea if the website was real or not."

ya my first post was more sarcasm then anything.......i don't really ever go to movies becasue of all the teenage brats that talk through them (this year i only saw Capotie, Land of the Dead and Meet the Fuckers). But if i do happen to see it for some reason, you'll be the first one i tell.
As for the movie itself the comparisons i've heard are to Blair Witch, which is, without a doubt, one of the greatest horror movies made in recent times. But it is also one of the most hated movies around by people who 1) don't generally like horror movies, and 2) don't understand the values and positive "faults" of independent films. And i'd be willing to bet Wolf Creek follows into a similar category.

It was actually one of the best horror release's of 02' (and a directorial debut), and this in a year that saw many good genre films. It was also probably the best example of the hickploitation/slaher genre seen since the late 70's.....although that "genre" isn't to ever ones liking.
Only a hand of directors have had better starts then Roth; Craven, Romero and Hopper......

But for now all I remember is a stupid plot with characters you don't give a shit about, that blonde kid doing spinkicks and then biting someone, and ripping off the end of Night of the Living Dead. Reel.com Review: 2/4 stars
2006 gets off to a gruesome start with Hostel, Eli Roth's blood-splattered follow-up to his 2003 sleeper hit, Cabin Fever. Heavy on the gore but light on bona-fide scares, this reasonably well-directed piece of schlock is yet another horror flick about sadists preying upon clueless twentysomethings—in this case, three horndog buddies backpacking across Europe. Although Roth has a flair for creating an atmosphere of nightmarish dread, he's far less adept at developing sympathetic characters who talk in anything but "dude-speak." Of course, Hostel's target audience won't care one whit about such failings, once the extremely graphic torture scenes begin. But if explicit bloodletting's not your idea of quality entertainment, this picture will only succeed at turning your stomach.
Filmed in the Czech Republic, Hostel stars Jay Hernandez and Derek Richardson as Paxton and Josh, two crass American party boys out for good times and loose women in Europe. With their obnoxious Icelandic friend, Oli (Eythor Gudjonsson), in tow, they hop a train for remote Slovakia, where they'll supposedly find a hostel filled with wanton, East European beauties "hot" for Americans. And sure enough, Paxton and Josh hook up with Natalya (Barbara Nedeljakova) and Svetlana (Jana Kaderabkova) within minutes of arriving. But, as all three backpackers quickly discover, there's a horrific price to pay for staying in this hostel, where many check in, but few ever leave.
According to the film's press notes, Roth loosely based his grisly narrative on an actual business in Thailand that he ran across online. Whether or not this Thai website is genuine or just an especially sick Internet sham, Hostel does tap into viewers' anxieties about being alone and vulnerable in a foreign country. And while Roth's film doesn't paint the most inviting portrait of Slovakia for tourists, it was an inspired decision to set the film in an economically depressed, former Soviet bloc country that hasn't quite shed its forbidding "Iron Curtain" image for Westerners. The Slovakian village we see in Hostel is a grim, corrupt town populated by street gangs of feral children, amoral femme fatales and stone-faced thrill killers; it's enough to make one long for the good ol' days under Stalin.
Yet even though Hostel is certainly better than last year's Saw II, it's ultimately not very frightening—just plain gross. It's not a film that gets under your skin or haunts your dreams, like the classics of the horror genre, which often suggest, rather than show the nightmarish fate of the protagonists. Roth displays no such restraint in his film, which features scenes that would probably make the Marquis de Sade blanch (there have been reports of audience members fainting at preview screenings). Nor are there many surprises here, save for Roth's merciless treatment of the only vaguely likable characters. At least there are a couple of moments of morbid humor, thanks to a cameo by Rick Hoffman as a particularly "Ugly American" abroad.
Executive produced by grind house film devotee Quentin Tarantino, Hostel is strictly for the hardcore blood and guts fan.

This movie...
Was the biggest waste of time since Dark Water.
The way they marketed it, was all wrong. From the previews you think it's going to scare the fuck out of you the entire time.
Instead, you get tits and the word "f ag" for an hour. And killing scenes that were not as bad as the made you think for like, 10 minutes. If they really had ambulances for people during the first showing like they said, then the person obviously died of boredom, because this movie was just godawful.
Really, just watch some porn, and you get the first half of this movie, seriously.

I thought it was pretty bad ass. I went in expecting semi-pointless gore, and that's what I got. I think every show was sold out. At the 12:40, the one I went to, they had to open up an extra screen or two to run it on there was so many people.

why? just wondering. what did you think about it was great? first of all, i enjoyed the first half hour or so that a lot of people are complaining about. sure it was a lot of tits, but it had the same kind of humor that cabin fever had (which i loved). and it was important in setting up the plot and giving us information that would make sense when the movie came full circle in the end.
the rest of the movie was great horror at its best. the last half hour completely kicked my ass, i loved every second of it. the movie also has a good message, which i think a lot of people miss.
i'm pretty sure i liked this movie more than saw 1 and 2.

Yeah I've been to europe, and it was awesome. Even though one of the girls in our group, got date raped down their, she ended up getting pregnant and putting the kid up for adoption. I personally thought it was beautiful and never felt scared but I didn't stay in a hostel. I just hope this movie doesn't discourage anyone from visiting Europe. The lack of gore in this was pretty disappointing, especially from what the commercials led you to believe. And once the main kid killed his torturer you pretty much knew he was going to escape. The explanation they gave for it all was decent (the scene on the top floor with that other American dude), but they cut away from way too much, and let the main kid get out of the situation a little too quickly.
I laughed much more than I cringed, which isn't really a bad thing, it just wasn't what I expected.

Non-stop violence wasn't needed, but an entertaining storyline or real plotline would have helped. With the exception of gore there's nothing that separates this movie from a direct to video release.
Now that's not to say I didn't like part of the movie, I loved the end and its campiness, but to say the movie had something it didn't (a good plot) isn’t exactly being honest.

Eli's the shit!......so I’m not knocking him or the out come of the movie. I was not disappointed by any means. I just feel more could have been done with the plot given the money he had, the name recognition of the producer and based on the talent he showed in Cabin Fever; that's all.
And I respect that you liked the beginning because you could relate to it. I just, personally, thought it relied on too many clichés (tits’n beer) and not enough story.
