Matt of Hawthorne Heights (http://www.hawthorneheights.com) sent us this message:

Hey guys,

We just wanted to let AP know that even though most of you won't wanna come to our shows anyway, once the tour resumes, we (us, Silverstein, and Aiden) are going to be selling Bayside merch at the shows for them, and both we and Silverstein will also be donating portions of our guarantees to the band. Bayside will also be getting their guarantee every night for the remainder of the tour. So even if you just come in, buy a Bayside shirt, and leave, that would be much appreciated.

I do esp. for this. HH should stop reading message boards though, i mean almost every band gets shit on this site. I mean they are selling enough records not to worry what we have to say.

I respect most bands. All bands work hard and sacrifice a lot, and a lot of them are decent guys.

It always seemed to me that people who make fun of them are in an essence making fun of themselves. They call Hawthorne Heights trend chasers and a bunch of posers or whatever, but for probably 85% of the people talking shit, they are the ones who are trendy and a bunch of posers. If I were Hawthorne Heights it really wouldn't hurt my feelings if a bunch of kids who cut their teeth on Limp Bizkit and Backstreet Boys made fun of me.

I think that may be true for some people, i also think some people hate on bands because its the "cool" thing to do. However, lets no kid ourselves, there are plenty of people who really do not like this band. Why people choose to rip into them, idk, if they love what they are doing and work hard then i got no problem with them.

and the elected rock.

Well like if people see a band do something good they are more likely to defend them, and least likely to rip into them. But you're right, next post about them they will get shit again.

why do people hate bands for being successful?

i think it is more the fact that they hate bands that have become popular performing a generic style of songs that other bands have been trying to perfect for awhile and have stayed under the radar. They dislike the bands because the lyrics are just catchy and that brings in the mainstream, because here in America, no one likes to read in between the lyrics.

I for one do not like their music and never did before they became more popular. It is just a matter of opinion and taste in music. I respect them for doing what they do though and I guess if they are happy with the art they give to the world then that is good. I would never say I actually hate the people that make up the band because they have shown they are respectful human beings. I just dislike their art. The only thing about their message that I also dislike is that in the way it is worded, it seems like they are trying to make certain people feel guilty. I'm sure that was NOT their motive, but it looks that way sort of.

I don't think they hate them for being successful, I think it's for "so cut my wrists and black my eyes..". Honestly, if it wasn't for that lyric I think I would like this band.

Anyway, this is very cool of them. Much respect.

Same here with the St. Louis date. I wanted to go see Bayside, and then about a week later this happens. Horrible.
I feel the same as almost everyone here, very nice move by all 3 bands. They all get some respect from me for this. I also think it's cool how HH seem to have a good sense of humor about everyone here hating them. At least they can laugh about it, and it doesn't seem to be bothering them.

And to the few who are saying people are trying to be HH friends now, shut up. No one is saying that, in light of what they are doing to help Bayside out, that we are all of a sudden huge fans of their music, becuase that's not true. I've not seen one person so far say
"I used to hate these guys, but since I read that, THEY ROCK"
All we are saying is this is a very classy thing for these bands to do, and that we have more respect for them as people.

I find it funny that it seems like everytime a band becomes mainstream it is because they "sold out". What the hell is the purpose of putting a band together in the first place. The ultimate goal of any group of guys playing together is in a band is to somehow/someday make it big. Just because HH (FOB, Yellowcard, and coming to a hate-list near you MCR) made their way up in the world, doesn't mean they should be liked any less. If not to make it big, what is the point of putting out a record/touring endlessly/selling merchandise in remote venues and locations, etc... if not to one day make yourself known. I respect the hell out of HH for doing what they do while all the while keeping things in perspective (i.e cancelling their 1st headlining tour out of respect for their tour partners). I will be continuously supporting them 100 %.

why do people hate bands for being successful?we don't, asshole. jimmy eat world is a pretty successful band and i don't know anybody on this site who can honestly say they HATE jimmy eat world. they may not be their favorite band, but most everybody who actually likes and knows good music can admit that jew has talent, and released one of the most amazing records of our generation (clarity).

then again, jimmy eat world isn't a carbon copy of every other screamo band ever, and they don't read the AP.net boards consistently ;)
