Posting the final two pieces of the 5 song album Dedications & Lullabies. i am going to refrain from posting the 5th peice. But only bc it is blatently religious and i dont want comments.. which makes me wonder why i even mentioned it...

Prodigal Father

~Verse 1~
I'd like to make excuses
I'd like to make up lost time
I'll try to find the right words to say to you
Now I think of the years gone
Falling like sands in an hourglass
And I think of you waiting for daddy to come home
But I've never been enough
I've never been very strong
But every time you scraped your knees
Who could make it better than daddy
But when you looked around
I was nowhere to be found
Just another lonely tear on your cheek
Realizing my excuses mean nothing

~Chorus 1~
I'm sorry son, for the years that are lost
I sit here day by day, steady dreaming of your face
And I'd like to think, that it could be enough
That I never forgot you and did the very best I could
But you can't be a man without your father
Because I know that I'm nothing without mine
So if your steps begin to falter
Remember our Father's there for you son

~Verse 2~
Now your brother looks up to you
And he couldn't choose a better path
Because I know you'll grow into a man they'll all love
But I can't help but imagine
If I had made the right choices
You would have someone to look to when your life becomes tough
But I've never been enough
I know I'm the only one
To blame for fingers pointing at me
That I'm not there to give you what you need
I had been a fool
I knew exactly what I had to do
But I let you fall before you could stand
All you ever wanted was my hand

~Chorus 2~
I'm so sorry sons
Wish I could turn back time
I'd remember my choices dictate your future not just mine
I know you'll make me proud
Even if I never hear the sound
Of you calling me daddy again cause I know
You can be a man if you trust in our Father
Call out his name when you’re alone in the dark
Cause even though you'll always be my baby boyos
He loves you more than anyone knows how

I don't really want to critique this. I guess the only thing I could really say is that some of these all sort of bleed together; they're all so similar that it's sort of hard to determine what's being said differently in each one. Not necessarily a problem, as this is a series of songs on the same topic, but it's something to keep in mind. I want to say that I admire your unabashed honesty and your willingness to share your difficult situation with us. I'm a little bit in awe, actually, as I don't think I could ever write as raw and upfront as you do. I wish you the best of luck in this situation.

hmm... yes i do agree I don't want to get stuck on one concept. But I wrote these songs specificaly as a dedication to my boyos. I am fairly happy with them. Unabashed? I like that. Yes I don't even know the people who may read this but I would tell the whole world, as dumb as that sounds, how much I love them. Also it means a good lot to hear you admire me in any way as I read your work and feel pretty dumb. I have no technique must less knowledge of technique. I'm not that great with literature. I only have my emotions and I guess I try to appeal to the emoitional sides of ppl rather than the intellectual bc I am just not on that level of writing... thank you for your wishes. and your thots, they do mean a lot!
