No, it's not in production, but if it was?

For one of my screenwriting courses for my school, I need to write an adaptation of a work of literature or video game so I picked the Twisted Metal series. I love the original Twsited Metal and Black like no other, they both exemplify the whole entire series. But, this thread is where I will begin. I am hoping to get some opinions of what kind of things would add to a great Twisted Metal movie. I imagine a good back story of Calypso and Sweettooth/Needles Kane. But, in the same vain, I do not want to make a Death Race ripoff and I want Sweettooth to be different crazy than The Joker a la The Dark Knight. So, it's up for discussion.

Was there a story for the video games? I only remember trying to kill people with weird cars.

Yeah, well, the basic story as I remember it was Calypso was driving with his family when Minion smashes into his car. His wife and kid both die in the crash and so Calypso decides to make a deal with the devil to plead for his wife and kid's life. The devil agrees, but for eternity, Calypso must run this underground demo derby called Twisted Metal. But, as an incentive for the drivers to try to kill each other, Calypso is given the power to grant the winner of each tournament one wish. Calypso being a jokester himself, usually fucks with the winners. In Black, Sweettooth asked for his curse of existence be fixed but Calypso told him he was never allowed to kill again. Sweettooth murdered Calypso after that. There is a pretty rich backstory into each character.

I remember playing this game almost non-stop on my cousin's PS1. Those were the days...

Twisted Metal is one of my favorite games of all time. Thumper ftw. The stories are actually pretty great for the character, shouldn't be too hard to turn it into a screenplay.

i don't know about a screenplay, but those games are awesome, and the stories are indeed pretty detailed. it makes me laugh to think if it were actually made into a movie. i can't imagine sweet tooth walking around talking to people.

Oh, sweet. Much more than I would have ever thought. That's a lot of material you can adapt from.

I am doing something similar and I want to use World War Z for my source material for an HBO type Zombie series.

Wow I don't remember that much story, and could never have seen TM as a movie but good luck with the screenplay. Could be very interesting.

A movie like this could be cool if it wasn't campy and a real director/writer/produce/etc. got ahold of it. If it goes to like Mark Steven Johnson, no thanks.

If I were to obtain the rights to legally do a screenplay for this, I would put on the front page, do not pick Uwe Boll to direct
