Below are two show reviews from the Coheed And Cambria (www.coheedandcambria.com) / The Blood Brothers (http://thebloodbrothers.com/) / Mewithoutyou (www.mewithoutyou.com) / Dredg (www.dredgmusic.com) show last night in Atlanta. Thanks to our users DaveVegan and FrancesDaMute for submitting them!
"All Hallow's Eve in lovely Atlanta. A plethora of kids lined Luckie St. outside of the Tabernacle, awaiting to see one of the greatest lineups of any show, ever (in my humble opinion). Unfortunately, not many kids were dressed up. A pimp here, some MCR makeup there, and I in my 70's disco attire with afro wig. Ours was a scarce crowd. The Halloween spirit obviously lost on the Georgian youth.
Luckily for those in attendance, the bands did not share this attitude. So for those who were not able to attend, here's a quick recap of the night's festivities.
Philly's mewithoutYou opened up the night. Aaron popped out, dressed as a bunny. Or, at least he had a bunny on his head. But anyway, he, along with the rest of the band, hopped around with a lot more energy than I've usually witnessed in a live performance. Richard was quite dazzling as a french maid. Later crowd-surfing antics showed that he wasn't wearing any underwear...I lost my appetite for candy. Michael went as the skeleton made famous on Misfits t-shirts. Daniel was decked out in Hawaiian gear. And Chris sported my favorite costume of the night: a tree. Freshly rolled with TP. Classy. Their whole set came from their most recent album "Catch For Us the Foxes."
Next up was Cali's dredg. They were all sporting clown outfits, affectionately refered by Aaron Weiss as the "insane clown posse." I'm glad I didn't have to sit through that. But I am glad that dredg played a personal favorite, "Same Ol' Road," along with a few songs from their new disc "Catch Without Arms" (which everyone should go pick up if you haven't already). Gavin tossed out some candy to the crowd, which was much appreciated.
Blood Brothers came next, along with the obligatory high-pitched wailing during the sound check from Johnny Whitney (as Spider-Man). Jordan came out as a lion, which he later stripped off as they got further into the set, which included a few numbers off of "Burn, Piano Island, Burn." But mostly they played stuff from "Crimes." I found this kind of disappointing, as I hoped they would bust out some older jams since they had a longer set. They still found time to due some crazy...thing...in the middle of "Cecilia" in which each member decided to switch instruments to ones they obviously couldn't play and bang them for five minutes. I don't know, maybe they were drunk. But anyway, they had a lot of energy and it was fun. Cody went as a surgeon. Morgan and Mark were too cool to dress up, but they still looked pretty pimp. They closed out with "Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck." No surprise there, really. Johnny also expressed his disappointment at the lack of costumes.
The Coheed banner went up, complete with lightning bolts, and everyone got excited. And when Claudio's massive 'fro finally parted the fog onstage, the crowd went nuts. He was obviously dressed as Cousin It from the Addam\'s Family. Travis was dressed as that crazy clown dude from House of 1000 Corpses, and I guess Josh and Michael were his victims as they were simply covered in blood. They also had a festive Co&Ca pumpkin next to the drums. Pretty sweet. Their set was pretty varied, with most of the old favorites, and covering a lot of the new material. "Devil in Jersey City" going into "Everything Evil" was probably the highlight of the night, and they closed their set with it. The encore consisted of IKSOSE (always amazing live), and probably one of the Willing Wells, I'm really not sure, I don't know the new album very well. (I know, for shame). But they went into this fifteen minute jam session to end the show, which I thought was a bit anti-climatic, but oh well. Still a great show. If you live anywhere in the northeast, definitely catch this tour as it comes through. Solid lineup, each band is amazing live, intensely passionate, and talented. The remaining dates are as follows:

A [long] show review for the recent Coheed and Cambria tour, which has not been getting enough press the last couple weeks. I was fortunate enough to see Coheed and Cambria on Halloween in Atlanta...and let me tell you, the show did not disappoint.
Mewithoutyou kicked the night of, and of course all members were dressed up in halloween garb. The two gutiarist were a skeleton and hawaiian tourist or something, which was nothing that special. The bass player was in street clothes but with a duct taped tree branch on his back. It was hilarious. The drummer was dressed as a french maid, and despite him being bald, with a full beard, and overweight, I was attracted to him. The singer was very trippy, dressed as Jesus or something, but then he had a plush rabbit doll that he kept wearing on his head(until he later through the rabbit into the rabid crowd. I wasn't much a fan of Mewithoutyou, but after seeing them live they won me over. They put on a helluva show for an opening act.
Dredg was next...and if anyone has seen dredg you know to expect great things live. The band came out dressed up also, this time as the Insane Clown Possy(quite hilarious). The singer through out candy during the show, and sounded awesome, despite being drowned out by the bass and drums. Same problem happened with the gutiarist, and he was nailing his material which makes it more of a shame he wasn't turned up a bit. Dredge was spectacular, and I highly reccommend everyone check out this band's cds and see them live when they stop by your town.
After seeing the first two bands, I was worried how the crowd would react the violent switch of music being presented, especially being in Atlanta and knowing the kids aren't as 'gung-ho' about some of the harder stuff as fans are in the north. Blood Brothers came out, the two singers dressed as a lion and as Spider-man, the drummer was a 'thug', and the gutiarist as a doctor/surgeon. I don't think the bassist dressed up, but his talent overshadowed his lack of halloween spirit. Anyway, boy was I surprised. The Blood Brothers killed their set, and the fans loved it. I can't speak for all the people their, but I know that all the kids around or in the pit and front floor area were having a blast. They didn't play much older material(Guitary Army and Fucking's Greatest hits were AMAZING though). My only complaint was the gutiarist sound sometimes got lost in the mix, which was disappointing. But overall, the Blood Brothers were amazing, and if you're a fan of harder music, I would definitely urge you to go see them. You won't be disappointed.
Finally, came Coheed and Cambria. First off, let me say that I have seen Coheed about 8-9 times lives, and with each set they have improved from their last performance. On Halloween, Coheed reminded me why they are one of my favorite live acts. Coming out to Keeping the Blade, the scenery was emphasized during the epic intro. The back drop said Coheed and Cambria, and the light show illuminated the props, which I won't tell but they come from the comic. Halfway through the song, Claudio comes out with the double-necked, white Gibson SG and as the intro ends he went right into Always and Never. Beautiful song. Anyway, of course Welcome home was next, and man did the crowd go nuts. It was intense. They played most of their singles, a few older tracks(Delirium Trigger!) Closed with Everything Evil. Encore of In Keeping Secrets and then a jam fest of the Final Cut, upon which Claudio went nuts, soloing behing his back/over his head. It was intense.
This is easily one of the best tours of the Fall, and probably of the year. Go see it.
