And yes, music does depend on quality, but different people like different things. What may be the most amazing thing ever in your eyes may be seen as complete and utter shit in someone else's eyes. Like, I like listening to Blink-182, as do a bunch of other people. However, my bass instructor doesn't like them at all. He does, however, respect them and the genre, despite not liking either.
