William Beckett of The Academy Is... (http://www.theacademyis.com) recently posted this message on the band's web site:
Santi.
Last night we played our first show of the tour in St. Petersburg. Absolutely incredible. i feel like this tour is going to be the best thing we've done to this point. My favorite part of the evening was standing on that stage, looking over the crowd, seeing the large patches of TAI fans scattered across, mixed with people who were seeing us for the first time. Standing together, arms raised, and completely in the moment of experiencing something magical together... I felt in that moment everything I will ever need to keep playing songs in front of people. The marriage of old and new fans, now as one, all congregated in a place that is packed full of people from different walks of life. Different social classes, different races, different ages... All experiencing what is rock n roll. All experiencing what it is to be moved by music. That reciprocated energy. That give-and-take that we have as fans / artists. My God, do I love you for that. Everything that I've wanted in this life was to move people in a positive direction with my words. Affect them in some way that will promote improvement in their lives. Last night I saw it, over a sea of 1000 faces, i saw it. So my message to all of you TAI fans out there that are reading this... If you are coming to one of the shows on this tour with All American Rejects, I beg you to open up. Come out to the shows with your friends, have fun with them, but don't be afraid to embrace some new ones. There are a lot of people out there who have never heard The Academy Is, and a lot that have not been touched the way you have. Embrace them. Show them what being a true fan of music is. Show them the true love and energy that makes you who you are. Show them what you have shown me for the past 2 years of my life. The hope you have given me, matched by the hope we have given you. Show them what it is to be a TAI fan. Open your arms to them. Show them what we all stand for. Thank you all, and the next time I see you will be our most memorable.
