Blink-182 is Pop-punk. that is their genre. There's no argument there, they are both.
...the answer is still both.

I mean if you have to pick one or which side do they lean toward more. I realize this is very narrow minded way to think and it's ridiculous, but please just pick one.

If you had to choose between labeling this shitty band pop or punk then it would be pop obviously. Both pop and punk are really umbrella genres but pop is much more of a loose term that could mean anything from Britney Spears to what's played on "alternative" radio stations.

End your stupid argument now, you are both right.

Haha it is definitely both. Not even a question. If I absolutely had to pick a side I'd say punk, but I don't like that, because they are absolutely not "punk" in the definition that your average person thinks of it as. Same with pop. Pop makes me think of Britney Spears and NSync.

It can't really be either one. It's CLEARLY not punk and they CLEARLY are not pop. Thus the genra "pop-punk." Define them as such, and leave it as that. It's the genre they are in.

Are you not getting the question presented by this thread? Obviously not. Yes, blink would be classified as Pop-Punk, but what side do they lean more towards? Are they more Pop? Are they more Punk? Giving such a stupid in the middle answer doesn't help progress this thread at all. So before pointing fingers and thinking we're all stupid, read the thread.

I'd disagree and not call Pop an umbrella genre. Pop has certain attributes. Heavily vocal and melody centered, catchy music designed with hooks, relatively predictable song structure, simple chord progressions, etc.

Thank you, I went out to eat, and I figured eventually someone would be able to understand this very simple concept. I'm never assuming anything again.

It's kind of narrow-minded to think that all pop is like Britney Spears. Not a good argument.

I think it kind of depends... I mean, the way they act aren't really like pop sort of stuff... They all use real instruments and sound somewhat punk there. But they are catchy like pop.
I would lean more towards punk, but narrowly. Especially look back at Flyswatter, Buddha, Cheshire Cat, and Dude Ranch. You can't forget those albums.

Kelly Clarkson uses "real" instruments. Stars of Lid don't use "real" instruments. I can't agree with your point about whether or not real instruments helps define a genre, or more specifically Pop. And how an artist acts certainly does not define a genre.
You bring up a better point by mentioning the albums, but i'd say that Dude Ranch doesn't fit with those other three. It definitely portraits Pop ideology. The first three i haven't given a proper listen, but i'm sure they aren't super Punk either.

Of couse they aren't super punk, but closer to punk definitely. Even dude ranch.
And I wasn't just talking about the use of the instruments but how they are used

Even how they are used doesn't make them any less Poppy. You've got your generic Rock set up (drums, bass, gutiar(s), vocals) and they play them in a basic fashion, accenting the melodies and vocals with drive the music along. Blink is heavily melody/vocal based. Catchy lead hooks on guitar. Simple chord progressions, simple song structure. Generic Pop lyric themes, mostly youthful love and lust. Lots of Pop traits i'd say.

Yeah I agree, looking back on that umbrella genre was a bad way to get across what I was trying to say. I think I was trying to get at that there's a genre called pop that is within the musical restraints of what you said, and then there's a use of the word pop used to describe something that is popular or trendy in contemporary music.

I totally agree with this.
