I was at a crossroads this past halloween, to either attend a huge keg party at a frat, drink and get to see girls in skimpy and slutty costumes or go to one of the best shows to come through State College this semester. I attended the latter. The show featured Paramore, The Plain White T's, and The Straylight Run. This was the only off date that these three bands had from their tour with Simple Plan, which made me happy because the price was under $30 and there was a lack of pre-teen girls running around screaming. My friends and I made our way to the balcony of the club and fortunately found some seats available right in front, looking directly down to the stage. Paramore took the stage first, all decked out in costumes. Drummer Zac was sporting nothing except boxer shorts and an extra-large white t-shirt with a big letter 'S' on it, implying that he was a salt shaker. Josh was dressed as the guitarist from Avenged Sevenfold, Jason was a skeleton, and Hayley was wearing a mouse nose and an afro wig claiming she was supposed to be a "hood rat." The band kicked into their set with the first track off of their album, All We Know. Paramore played quite a long set, taking time to apologize for any sloppiness that occurred. They played all of the crowd favorites from their album including Emergency, Pressure, Here We Go Again, and Whoa. They closed with the final song off of their album, My Heart.
Chicago rockers, The Plain White T's were next to take the stage at The Crowbar that night. They kicked right into their set with the second track off of their sophomore album, Revenge. This is the fourth time that I have seen the PWT live and I must say that this was the best, most energetic set that I have ever seen them perform. They played nearly every single song off of All That We Needed including, My Only One, Sad Story, Breakdown, What More Do You Want?, Anything and the title track to the record. About mid-way through their set they stopped to have a costume contest among those dressed up in the crowd. They invited all of their fans who were in costumes on the stage and had the crowd vote on their favorite. A kid dressed as famed Chicago Cubs announcer Harry Carry won the contest and a CD from each of the bands playing. The band finished their set by having vocalist Tom Higgenson perform Hey There Delilah, and then having the full band play Stop and Take Me Away.
Lastly, The Straylight Run took the stage to close out the night. They also were also sporting costumes in support of the holiday. John was wearing a pancho with a sombrero, Shaun was dressed as a pimp, and Will was dressed in 70's clothing that reminded me of Saturday Night Fever. Although encountering some technical problems throughout their set, they still managed to keep their cool and perform one of the best sets that I have seen them play. Their set list included all of the crowd favorites including It's For The Best, The Tension And The Terror, and Sympathy For The Martyr. About mid-way through their set, John invited Hayley from Paramore on the stage to perform I Don't Want This Anymore with them. As soon as that song concluded, the band kicked directly into Existentialism On Prom Night. The crowd really seemed supportive through their set by moving more than I have ever seen a crowd react to them.

That was a good review. This show is comin to Providence tomorrow with The Invite, but I don't think I'll be able to attend. Did Straylight play that song, "Mistakes We Knew We Were Making"?
