Yes, the Spill Canvas is headlining. You heard it here first!!! It's going to be announced tomorrow but I found out early.
Socratic and Person L are going to be cool though.

Eh if it was 2004, I'd say it would be cool. This festival has progressively gotten worse every year since 05. Do you know if they're looking into any last minute additions? I think Raekwon was last year.

Yeah I mean it's something to do, but the lineup definitely sucks. I do have to get over there at least for a little while. My friend is on a committee, so I'll "volunteer" and have her give me a shirt. I've been collecting them since freshman year haha.

haha oh yea. I was definitely hoping for better. But they didn't even try to get a headliner until about two weeks ago, so they obviously weren't going to have much luck.
Whoever is running it must have no idea how to run a show. But still, looking forward to a few of the bands.

Wow that lineup blows. when i went in 2002 Jimmy Eat World was the headliner, and that was right when they were huge with The Middle. What happened to PSU?

What happened to the people in charge. THEY SUCK THIS YEAR to be honest.
They didn't even have a headliner until less than two weeks ago.
The show is April 4.
The Spill Canvas was a last minute decision when they couldnt get any other bands.

Do we know who won the Battle? I couldn't make it.
Seriously this fest has taken such a dive these past years.
Rusted Root, Fall Out Boy, Head Automatica, and Suburban Legends in 05
Talib Kweli, RX Bandits, Gym Class Heroes, Pete Francis in 06
Days Away and Phantom Planet in 07
Raekwon in 08

What I don't understand is...so they switch off between the 2 stages, so there's constant music and not much downtime. Then why do they have all the battle of the bands winners going first? That means a potentially "big" band could be on the smaller stage. Usually the battle winners are fit in so that they're playing a 30-45 minute set on the smaller stage while they setup the main stage for each of the bigger bands.
I'm going home this weekend not worth staying for..... we had A Day to Remember at the HUB monday which was amazing. Mewithoutyou is supposedly coming before the end of the semester.

hahah oh God that did not go well at all. I had to sneak around to one of the side entrances, because they were letting all the line cutters in before everyone else. It would've ran soooo much more smoothly if you had to get a ticket, or even just show an ID.

Well they switch between the stages so there isn't much downtime? haha... That's pretty clear.
If they fit in the locals while setting up the main stage, there would be absolutely nobody to go see the local bands. Who's going to give up their spot in front of the main stage to see a local? Nobody, I know I wouldn't. They have the two stages and locals going first like that to try and get people to see them.
And it isn't set up by SOMA. It's put on my Movin' On haha. It's a different committee.

I guess you've never been to Movin On. The stages are right next to each other. People run over the get in front of one stage when someone's performing there and then run over to get in front of the other stage afterwards. If they don't want to give up their spot in front of the main stage then they stay there, and can still see the other stage fairly well, just at a very poor angle.
This isn't like a normal concert with unknown bands opening. The unknown bands get the small stage, the bigger bands the big stage. Pretty simple. With the set up this year with all the unknown bands going first, that doesn't seem possible.
and yes we know this isn't set up by SOMA, it was a joke.

Actually, they didn't look for a headliner...
They didn't even start to think about it until less than a month ago actually. So basically those in charge had absolutely no idea how to set up or book a concert... Not to mention they paid The Spill Canvas(you're not going to believe this) 15,000 dollars to play. Now they are stuck with a bunch of bands nobody really cares too much about, and I'm going to guess they have a very very very small crowd this year.

Yea. I'm not on the committee, wish I was though. I could actually get shit done as opposed to not getting a legit headliner. The only reason they got The Spill Canvas was because someone on the committee are friends with them... Without that who knows who they would have even gotten. But yea, it's pretty clear they have no idea how to run a concert. They paid the spill canvas 15,000 for the show.

My friends and I drove close to 4 hours just to see Person L and it was more than worth it. They are such a good band! I can't wait for their new album. It's going to blow everything out of the water. They played a lot of new songs.
Plus, this is a free event with good bands, so if you go to PSU there was really no excuse to go.

Depends what show it is. Valencia was awesome and A Day To Remember was sick too. The crowds were real into both... Then again, those ones were more hardcore fans.
Then the ones downtown at Sozo are pretty cool too. People are usually into those... But thats just because it's usually fans that go because it costs money.
Socratic were real good. I've known them from Spread the Rumors so I was looking forward to that show. They were fun, even with a crowd of people who had never heard of them.
I thought White Tie Affair put on a really really good show, especially for having no crowd involvement or caring at all. It would be pretty hard to stand up there and jump around and be so enthusiastic to a crowd of a few hundred people standing there with their arms crossed or hands in their pockets not singing or jumping or anything. Even on Candle people just stood there. That was pretty lame. Ignoring that, I enjoyed their performance a lot. Tons better than I expected.

Way better than movin on and that stuff... But we need a legit venue here. Sozo itself sucks. the guy who runs it is a CRAZY NAZI CHRISTIAN. I was promoting that show. The people at LuLu's sucked and yelled at me for trying to find the back door... after I called Capitol and TSL's tour manager told them to tell me to go in through the back door. I talked to someone by the tour buses and he pointed to a guy and he said "This guy is awesome. He will get you inside." It was one of the guys from FYS, and he got us in. I told him about the asshole who yelled at me and he was like "Purple jacket?" and he knew exactly who I was talking about and agreed with me, haha. Actually, I heard that if a band curses on stage (I swear at one of the shows I went to at SoZo, one of the bands cursed) then they have to pay a fine. They hold church there on Sundays. I don't blame the guy. People should be grateful for the shows that come here, especially with the lack of venues around, and grateful to the guy for allowing shows to happen at Sozo. He could easily say no and let the venue only be used for church related things.
The Cell Block (where The Crowbar used to be) had a few shows last year (like Yellowcard, which was a great show), but they haven't had any this year. It sucks because now I live right across from The Cell Block.

But I have heard a TON more about the place... Like, 1. He charges a redic price to book a show there because there's nowhere else to go. 2. They have NO idea how to run sound. 3. In his office he has a list of people that he needs to try to convert to christinanity, people he doesn't even know what religion they are.
AND I have a friend who was in a local band that had a local show there. They got kicked out, and are never allowed to play there again. My friends band is a christian band(Like Underoath style). The guy took them out, told them they are not Christians if they play that type of music, and any true christian knows that that type of music is only for the devil. No real christian would ever listen to it...
I mean, this guy is just pure insane. And if you're bringing in semi large bands to play and they say a few swear words, they just need to let it go.

i mean, I understand why they ask them not to. But NONE of them actually listen to that rule, and if you're going to bring in acts who swear sometimes, let them swear. You're already making them pay a incredibly assholeish amount to let someone book the show.

I like the Spill Canvas and I was excited for it. And yeah, there were pretty big names in the past. If the school gave more money for the bands for this show (booking 7 bands with how much money they gave was pretty difficult, considering how the total amount they gave for bands wasn't even enough to get a "big" headliner) then there would have been a bigger band as a headliner. Basically, there's going to be people who love the headliner and people who hate it. You can't please everyone, and the main people who talk about it are the people are are disappointed. There was a pretty big crowd for the show, especially considering how frigid it was outside.
I got the Spill Canvas setlist for anyone interested - it's in my drawer in my dorm, haha. Here it is:
Hush Hush
The Truth
Staplegunned
Dutch Courage
Reckless Abandonment
Natalie Marie and 1CC
To Live Without It
The Tide
Polygraph, Right Now
Bleed, Everyone's Doing It
Saved
Connect the Dots
Battles
Lust A Prima Vista
All Over You
I tried posting a picture of it, but it failed.

Polygraph, Right Now = LOVE it
Bleed, Everyone's Doing It = Probably the only song I would replace on this setlist
Saved = good
Connect the Dots = good
Battles = good
Lust A Prima Vista = LOVE
All Over You = love

That is a fucking SOLID TSC set list, but ugh I hate that they no longer play All Hail the Heartbreaker...even on headlining shows:(

I'm not joking when I say this: The entire day I kept saying all I wanted was All Hail the Heartbreaker and I'd be content. I knew it was wishful thinking, but I was hoping for it so badly. :( There was a meet and greet with the band at 5pm-ish, and I was going to ask Nick about it (or even Self-Conclusion). But one of the other bands ended early and Person L was starting early, so I skipped the meet and greet because I really wanted to see Person L.
As the Spill Canvas set kept going on, I got depressed because I knew it wouldn't get played, but as soon as they started the beginning to Lust A Prima Vista, I literally went insane. Love love love that song. It didn't replace All Hail the Heartbreaker for me, but it was still fantastic. I was also happy they played Natalie Marie and 1CC, because they didn't play it when I saw them with Augustana in November, haha.
And they played The Tide full band, electric. Sounded pretty awesome. I've never seen them play The Tide like that before, or even at all, I think.
And I haven't really listened to the new album much (and I don't have the EP), so I basically only knew The Tide and everything from One Fell Swoop. The reason why I knew some of the songs from the new album is because I've seen the new songs played before, haha.

Yeah I REALLY miss the days where they opened with Lusta Prima Vista (perfect opener in my opinion) and closed with All Hail.
I don't understand how they don't play All Hail the Heartbreaker. It is STILL their number one most played song on last.fm, etc.
The Tide full band is awesome and the way they play All Hail full band live is really awesome too. Sigh....I miss the good ole days. Natalie Marie is probably in my top 5 favorite songs of theirs so it is really great when they play it.
I talk to Nick pretty much every time I see them and I even asked him one time if he doesnt like playing All Hail or something...he said he loves playing it...so why the fuck don't you play it every set dammit haha

Hahahahaha got it. The people at LuLu's decided to add a barricade for the next show I went to there. Finally. That block was so stupid.
No, they didn't have enough to book someone like Jimmy Eat World, but I know the budget for a headliner. And for the price they could have got someone WAY bigger and WAY better than The Spill Canvas.

I haven't seen The Spill Canvas headline before. :(
I'm so sad they don't play All Hail the Heartbreaker live anymore. I don't think I've ever seen them play it.
Hahahaha you should tell him next time you see him to always play it. That way I can see it live. :(

You also have to take into consideration that it was held on April 4th. A ton of bands were on the other side of the country for Bamboozle Left, so I'm sure a bunch of the bands contacted weren't available.
You have to calm down, haha. I'm sure it could have been so much worse.

lol yeah. I have seen them 11 times since November 2004. The first time was them headlining and they played 6 songs haha! At least they played All Hail though. I have seen them headline only 4 times out of that 11, and they played All Hail 2 out of the 4, but I've probably seen them play all hail 5-6 times...it is just sad that they don't play it anymore lol

I know, but that had NOTHING to do with it. They did not look for a headliner until LESS THAN A MONTH before Movin On. The ONLY reason they got the spill canvas was because someone the committee is friends with them. So they got them and paid a VERY overpriced amount for them.
They had NO idea how to handle a concert, and did not even TRY to get a headlining band.

I figured this would be a good place to throw this. Looks like UPUA is gonna put on a music festival with a similar budget as Movin on. Let's hope they get some bigger bands!

Is this going to be this semester or in the future sometime?
Also, do you know anything about the mewithoutYou show at the end of the month? All I know is that it's at the HUB. Being that I'm away this semester for my internship, I'm a bit out of the loop on things on campus.

I found out about it on Pollstar. It's on April 26th at Heritage Hall in the HUB. I don't know anything else about it though - not even a start time or anything. I haven't seen a single flyer on campus about it.

99% sure it's the Asylum concert, but also 99% sure it's not going to start at 5pm....Actually it's a Sunday, so it might conclude all the Blue & White festivities.

It's the thirtieth...
As for the mewithoutYou show, it is the 26th. I think that it starts at six, but I'm not sure. Safari So Good is opening.
