i saw this thread and decided i had to make an account and say something.

Frank- Something disrupts a tour (singer quitting, van breaking down, etc.) and forces a cancellation, what steps would you take to get the band back on their feet and make the situation blow over well amongst fans?
Josh- None of my bands would quit in the middle of anything - they would honor
their commitment and finish out the tour as long as it was physically possible. However, almost every band has been in a situation in which it had to cancel shows due to unforeseen circumstances: vans breaking down, illness, death in the family, etc. In my experience, true fans tend to understand these things and just look forward to the band coming back around again. But there are several things a band can do to show their fans that they care - here are just a few basics:
1. Schedule a makeup date for the show
2. Offer an explanation/apology to the fans via website, press release, email blast, etc.
3. In addition to refunding ticket purchases, try to offer something extra to ticket buyers: free song download, ringtone, autographed item, etc.
4. If you're an opening act, send band members ahead to cover the rest of the dates of the tour to represent the band. Maybe play acoustic set or just hang out to meet fans at the show to let them know the band is as bummed about missing the show as they are.

oh thats weird because i definitely remember hearing about YOU kicking ROSES ARE RED off the current juliana theory tour because they ran into such situation. THREE WEEKS before TJT tour, they lost 2 members and still played 2 days later at the chain reaction! they even told everyone how they had replacements and werent going to cancel ANY SHOWS. then what happened??? apparently JOSH KARCHMER decided it was best to not let them continue and put that shitty band FOR THE WORLD on. who are they???

ANYWAYS, bottom line is i may seem a little bitter about this because Josh Karchmer fucked me and a bunch of my friends who bought tickets for that tour SOLEY to see ROSES ARE RED and because of some manager power trip, we are the ones who got the shaft.

REAL COOL and better yet, REAL PROFESSIONAL.

For the record: A few days before the tour began I spoke with Roses Are Red's manager and booking agent, who were both in the process of terminating their relationships with the band as a result of the abrupt dismisal of 2 members. I had no assurances that the commitments made by those two former members, the former manager and the former booking agent could be upheld by the remaining members of the band.

I wish Roses Are Red the best of luck in finding new band members, new management and a new booking agent.
