I will be conducting an interview with Adam at QueerPunks.com (www.queerpunks.com) soon. QueerPunks.com is a rock website aimed towards homosexuals. Adam insists that he can't be offended, so if you have any questions about stereotypes, fitting in, or any other homosexual related matters, please post them in the replies.

are you offended or do you like the queers?
do you dislike when straight people go out of their way to be friends with you just so they can show they're accepting?

Why do they have to make a site for homosexuals? They can come here. Can straight people go there? Would they be pissed if we made a punk site for straight people?
Do gay hardcore kids tend to wear super tight girls jeans, or is the tightness of the jeans determined on a sceneness by sceneness basis?

The fallacy of the final statement is that they are in fact a sub community. I doubt queerpunks is intended to replace communities like ap, merely augment them. I should hope that anyone would be welcome as long as they aren't a complete tart about things. haha, I said fallacy and that sounds like phallic... and gay dudes like phallic stuff HAHAHAHAHA

If they are a sub community they are only reinforcing it by making this site. That would be pulling away not coming together.

First thing, someone made a comment about people being born gay, well the only people that dispute that are religious, conservative, close-minded idiots. I would know, i happen to be gay, not in a million years would i, or anyone else i know, choose to be gay. Also, i do agree that that site is absolutely retarded and useless. People are people.
Ask this guy how he thinks that making a site like that is helping people accept homosexuals and homosexuality. What the hell is the purpose of making a site like that, i really dont understand...

i don't think the debate is as much over free-will vs. determinism as it is nature vs. nurture. That is, it's not whether people make a conscious choice to be gay or not, but rather are they born gay (possibly a "gay gene"?) or do they become gay through a combination of familial, psychological and social factors? it really is a complex dispute and is something discussed by much more than "religious, conservative, close-minded idiots", namely "scientific, liberal, open-minded geneticists" to name one subgroup.
as for why would he create this site, think of it this way: yes the music brings us all together but it's hard to completely fit in where 1/3 of the comments made are along the lines of "you like AAR, you're a ***" or "only homos listen to fall out boy" or "nice girl jeans, queer" and stupid shit like that. just in the same way a lot of us listen to this kind of music because we can relate to it, sometimes people just want to be surrounded by those they know are at least accepting of them, if not just like them. and believe it or not (though i know there are a lot of us out there), not everyone is very accepting of homosexuals these days.

i for one am gay and i kinda like the idea of this site. i dont feel as if it's dividing the community or anything. i love this site and i obsessivley check it many times a day, but the fact is that the majority of people who come here are probably straight guys and girls, and yeah i feel at home here but somtimes i dont. this site offers another place i can go to to talk about the music i like. a place where maybe i fit in just a little bit more. i hope they continue to run it and i'm glad AP has talked about it so more people know about it.
and this might sound dumb, but there are times where i'm wondering "well is he? or isnt he?" or i'm listening to songs about breaking up with girls wondering if there'll ever be a band where a guy sings about breaking up with a guy. there are probably a bunch of artists who are closeted and while, yes it doesnt matter, it sucks for people like me who want to break into the industry but dont have anytone to look up to in that aspect. am i just supposed to keep quiet if i do?

I think these insults such as homo, ***, queer etc. are taken too literally by some people. I sometimes call my friends them, but I am obviously joking and I do not actually mean them in a homosexual connotation, but as a general insult. I see your side where the insults obviously come from though. I don't know if what I said makes any sense.
it's fixed now, it was queerpunks not queerpunk.
Edit the title.
I do not actually mean them in a homosexual connotation, but as a general insult.
There's the problem though. You're using people's differences as insults toward your own friends. And since there is still a strong belief in this country that men should be macho, you're challenging that idea with your friends and accusing them of being something else. The only reason they would take it as an insult is because they have a problem with the concept. You're keeping homophobia alive and well, whether you like it or not.

No what did I just say. I'm using it as a general insult I am not "challenging their machoness." You are obviously one who is concerned with men's machoness, because "challenging my friend's machoness" was not even my intention and I don not care how manly they are. The only reason they take it as an insult is because I am insulting them. They don't sit around and think, "Oh no, my friend called me gay. He doesn't think I'm manly." They think my friend is making fun of me and having a good time, no problem. And I'm not homophobic at all. You are the one keeping it alive because I don't even think like that and you obviously think about homophobia. You're just too politically correct. To me calling my friend gay is the same thing as calling him an ass or a dick or a fuck. There's the problem. People like you making an issue out of every little thing.

i think what tony was saying is that you associate being gay with being an insult...which is wrong I guess. I mean, I know I say my fair share of 'pollitically incorrect terms', but I suppose he has a point.
Did anyone see arrested development this week...they used the british definiton of ***got(a bundle of sticks) and it was really funny...though I forget the actual play on words. right on.

Here are my questions:
Do you think there is a contradiction in being in the closet/not upfront with your sexuality to fans and being in the punk scene?
Do you think people in the scene will be accepting and supportive of someone in a band who comes out?
I know there are most likely members of bands out there in the punk scene, or having come from the punk scene, that are in the closet. What do you think makes them reluctant to come out?
Do you think that the growth of the "emo" movement in the scene, as well as adopting more androgynous styles of dress, is a sign of people feeling less constricted by gender norms, and therefore more accepting of homosexuality?

No, he's right. You are the one keeping it alive. 'general insult' or not, people use homosexual words as insults. Insults are considered negative, so a link between negativity and homosexuality is made. And when people make these jokes, sometimes they are taken a step further, i.e. [insert name here] loves cock.

Well, look at all those people who didn't have a role model or anyone to look up to and still made it big, right?
Like if you want to be a chef for example because you're a good cook, but no one else you know personally and you don't know of any famous chefs or anything, that shouldn't stop you, just do what ever the fuck you do to the best of your ability, don't worry about people putting you down and shit, that's how you get no where in life. don't second guess yourself.
Be that role model for other kids who are too afraid to break into the music industry/write about homosexuality in a lyrical context and such without caring about the public, you know?

You may not think of yourself as homophobic, but the language you choose to use says a lot more about your attitudes. It's not a matter of political correctness, or that I might be too PC. It's about the fact that people are assaulted and murdered all over the world just because they MIGHT be gay. Even in the United States, the supposed "land of the free," homosexuals are not a protected group under federal law, nor do they have the same rights heterosexuals do. If you don't think of yourself as homophobic, then prove it and stop using homosexuality as an insult.

It is about being too PC. My language does not make me homophobic. Yeah people are killed for being gay that's huge. I'm just using words as a joke. It's a huge difference. And homosexuals have the same rights except marriage. You are making them into their own group. It's that kind of mindset that messes things up. And me not using these words is limiting my free speech. Plus people get offended by everything. Am I not supposed to use bitch or pussy or dick? And when you say ass or dick or fuck do you actually mean that person is a part of the human body that people shit out of? Or that someone is actually a large penis with legs and arms? No, you don't. They are general insults just like ***.
