My favorite part about this Web site is when someone asks a genuine question and gets just another psuedo-hip kid, indier-than-thou snotty answer. If those bands are progressive to you man, cool.
My mild-mannered suggestions:
Isis
Flower Kings
Tricky
Pelican - a little too pretentious, but prog indeed.
Coalesce
Kraftwerk
Portishead
Melvins
Dinosaur Jr.
Yes
King Crimson
Sorry, when I started thinking...whew, I could have gone on forever. Sorry, again.

haha, i kid.
The Mars Volta is more experimental, although it can be argued that the experimentation really didn't progress leaps and bounds from the first full length. In fact as a whole, A Manual Dexterity is more experimental than the Mars Volta in my opinion.
Dredg is pretty proggressive I would say. I really don't know an exact definition. Hella maybe. (again thats more experimental)

All those bands are awesome. Also check out The Evpatoria Report (http://www.the-evpatoria-report.net) for similar stuff. As for stuff like The Fall Of Troy, check out Silence The Foe. They are on TFOT's old label.
