Fan report in from Nightmare of You (http://www.nightmareofyou.com)'s Tuesday show in Glasgow, Scotland:
On Tuesday night I had the pleasure of attending the Nightmare Of You gig at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut right here in sunny Glasgow, Scotland and it was without doubt one of the best nights I’ve had in a while. Support was provided by two local bands, scene veterans The Day I Snapped (who I recently saw supporting Jackson United) and up-and-comers DB68.
Perhaps surprisingly DB68 had the strongest fan base of all three bands and in fact some people left after they had played without even seeing Nightmare of You. The joke was on them though because NOY brought the house down. Playing only tracks from their recently released album (which disappointingly meant they missed out one of my personal favourites “No Uniform Is Gonna Keep You Warm) they seemed surprised at the warm reception they received from all in attendance, leading Brandon to remark jokingly “How did you guys find us? Was it Myspace?!”
Standing front and center and almost within arms reach I drunkenly made every effort to let the guys know that I was indeed their biggest fan by repeatedly (and perhaps frighteningly) flashing them rock signs and thumbs up and singing in the loudest and most out-of-tune voice I could muster. My moment of recognition came after “Dear Scene, I Wish I Was Deaf” when Brandon pointed to me and said the words I longed to hear “I love this guy!” Cheers Brandon! Special credit should also go to the guys standing on the right hand side of the stage who were giving it their all too. If I could give out scene points in real life those guys would’ve got some.
Of course by the end of the night everyone had been won over and when NOY first left the stage an impromtu chant of “You’ll be back! You’ll be back! You’ll be back!” broke out in anticipation of the encore. Immediately (and with a total absence from the stage of about ten seconds) they reappeared smiling and broke into “Marry Me”.
In the end the night came to a rather abrupt close as, whilst playing “Heaven Runs On Oil” Brandon managed to smash himself in the face with the headstock of his guitar. Running off stage in desperate search of something to stem the bleeding he left the rest of the band, who looked slightly perplexed to bring things to a close. As they finished Joe cautiously approached the mic and thanked us all for coming.
After the show I spoke briefly to Sammy who told us that he was amazed at the response they’d got. He then made a sharp exit as my friend Paul began drunkenly berating him for allowing Rival Schools to split up. Brandon then remerged looking a little beaten up but happy regardless and he was immediately surrounded by well-wishers.
Without doubt Nightmare Of You are an amazing live band. If you ever get the chance to see them grab it with both hands. That gig was up there with the best I’ve ever been to including seeing The Movielife in May 2003.
